i didnt read any of this thread at all but skimming thru i noticed alot of people had audigy 2 zs's, my friends system rebooted/blue screened constantly in BF2 and CS:Source, all older games worked, but putting his sound quality on low fixed any and all of his crashing problems. Its not a good solution and i have no idea whats causing it but it worked =/

I hate solutions like that, I mean its supposed to work in high quality

man if creative wouldnt have such a bad driver support

I´m audigy2 zs user too, and I fixed that problem by using old driver (2003 if I remember correctly).. I play in hard/high, but you can clearly hear the difference between the old and latest drivers, which sucks too

I had/have an audigy2 zs gamer and thought that was the problem. Changed all kinds of drivers, then bought a Turtle Beach Catalina card and I still have the same problem.
I'll probably end up rebuilding my whole PC because of this crap game!

All PB is doing to your system is stressing it so that the already present instability problems have surfaced. The problem will most likely be solved by reinstalling your motherboard chipset drivers. If you have a weak PSU, that causes the exact same kind of problems.

Read my new post if you have a ZIP drive or multi card reader. PUNKBUSTER TECH, said they could be causing it and IOMEGA.com has a patch.

yea i have the same prob but i thought that it was just caz of my PC. However i never had this problem before. For the first few weeks of BF2 everything was fine but then BAM and my PC restarted every 20min. i couldn't even finish a single match. recently it got better and my game only quit to desktop once today. Once when i finally got a good squad that took my orders and worked as a true squad. DAMN.

Could be a couple of things, make sure you have a good quality powersupply, not just large in watts, but a quality brand.

And the other thing, is i heard the agp aperture size, set to 128 fixes this problem.

It was my ZIP DRIVE causing the crash! Can you believe it, deleted the driver and BINGO!

I've posted in some other threads about this, but not here yet. I'm having the same problem......computer reboots after about 10-15 seconds in a game (not minutes, seconds). This only happens in multiplayer. I've played single player for four or five hours straight with no problems.

I tried removing my zip drive and all associated files/drivers but that didn't help.

I enabled DMA for my hard drives. For some reason I hadn't noticed that it wasn't enabled. I had to get a new IDE cable to get it to work at DMA100 levels.

I have a 350W Antec SmartPower psu that's putting out 12.01V on the 12V and 5.05V on the 5V lines. Those values were measured with a multimeter, the bios voltage readings were way off.

After seeing people complain about their sound cards, I tried removing my SoundBlaster Live! Platinum card. I installed the drivers for my motherboards onboard audio, and launched BF2. I was able to play for 90 minutes without rebooting. I don't know if this fixed my problem, or if I just got lucky last night.

Athlon64 3200+
1GB (2x512) Corsair ValueSelect RAM CAS 2.5
ATI AIW 9800Pro with Cat5.6 drivers
SB Live! Platinum sound card (now using onboard audio)
2 WD harddrives, both 7200rpm, both with DMA enabled
Antec 350W SmartPower psu

Thanks for the post. Definately let us know if you've resolved your issues by reverting to your onboard audio. Also, be sure that Punkbuster is up-to-date because that would account for a difference between single-player and multi-player. Just a thought.

Interesting. I too had this problem for a while. I boosted the voltage on my RAM and it hasn't happened since, though. For those of you who are having this problem, and it's not being caused by your soundcard or your ZIP drive, you might want to try that, if you haven't already. Memtest can come back just fine, but playing BF2 seems to make it unstable if your RAM voltage isn't high enough.

Running a quick defrag program every time before you play BF2 (I use Power Defragmenter. Takes five minutes to do my whole 250gb SATA drive) also helps to keep reboots and CTDs from occuring. If I don't defrag before I play, I get CTDs without fail.

I haven't seen your spec's, hedgehog......what board and RAM are you running? What voltage did you go to? I've seen some posts mentioning going to 2.7 or 2.8V, and had thought about doing that. I just wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not. My DDRRAM voltage is currently set to let the RAM decide, is there any way I can find out what voltage it's using (just in case the problem is still with me)?

Running an MSI K7N2 Delta2 Plantinum mobo, with 1gb of Corsair 3200TwinX XMS RAM, rated at running 2-2-2-5 (set to 2-3-3-7 for OC). If you know your RAM model, look it up on the internet to get your exact voltage, and how hard others have pushed it. Anything up to 2.8 has been quite safe for mine, and actually I get a much more stable system. As a general rule, never go above 2.8, and 2.7 is usually good enough to solve these problems if you're not overclocking.
