    Kill Stats don't add up

Was on bf2s.com checking my stats when I noticed something odd. My total kills is 6272. When I manually add up total kills per kit, I get, ta-da, 6272. But when I add up the total kills /per weapon + vehicle kills I get 6528, and that's not including the road kills (I was assuming the road kills is included in total kills)

Does anyone have a viable explanation? The only things I could come up with were 1) If I get, let's say, a mine kill from chucking it out of a transport copter it shows up as both an explosive kill and a chopper kill????

    Or

    2) The AA/AT kill stat overlaps in someway the air defence/ground defense stats???

Hmm, I added mine up and got 3898 kills from vehicles, weapons, etc. However my total kills is 3928. A small difference, but a difference in a different direction than you.

Only thing I can think of is arty kills, but that still wouldn't explain why yours adds up to more and mine adds up to less. Plus, I know I've got more than 30 arty kills.

maybe it took whatever kills u got in vehicles as a certain class and put them into the class kills category. so in other words, of the 6272 kills u have total, 256 were from while in a vehicle?

I don't think so. My class kills total jived with my overall total kills, it was the vehicle + weapon kills that just don't add up.

RE: Leviathan. I totally forgot and never even factored in artillery kills from being a commander. That would bump me a good 80.... curiouser and curiouser.

I guess a third plausible explanation is that even though I re-re-re-rechecked my stats I might have adumadition problems... FYI My Stats

I checked your math several times and I also get 6528 for you, so that puts you exactly 256 over what it actually shows. I'm going to keep looking at your stats, as well as some other people to see if I can figure out something. This is very strange.

Something I thought of is that you play a lot of engineer, and I would imagine lay a lot of mines. I wonder if when you get a kill after you are dead, with a mine or claymore, if it doesn't register as getting it with a certain kit. The total kills comes from the addition of the kit kills, and if you aren't credited a kill with the engineer kit, but still a kill with a mine, that would cause a discrepancy. However, it's unlikely that 256 out of 358 of your mine kills happened after you were dead, and that still doesn't explain how people (like me) could have more kills from weapons/vehicles than their kit kills.

hmmmmm.... interesting and I don't think it just applies to mines. Let's say you are anti-tank and throw a missle at a tank the same time it shells you to death. If the tank is on it's last legs, sometimes it has that delayed-blow-up. Or if you chuck a grenade, and kill someone after he mowed you down.

Another "bug" I have seen is if I hop out of an APC drop some mines and then get back in and speed away. Sometimes, when guys run over my mines, it shows something like ****[APC]kramittheforg. Just cuz I am in the APC, it credits me with an APC kill, not AT-MINE.

This actually raises some other questions/bugs.... Has anyone ever spawned engineer (or medic/support) and then picked up another pack somewhere (let's say a Spec Ops) only to sill see the repair/health/ammo bars above tanks/people. It's like it still thinks some part of you is still engineer?? If I pick up another kit, do the kills TRULY go under the kit you just snagged?

This is getting more and more confusing!!!!!

Yeah, that's a good point. That would explain having more vehicle/weapon kills than kit kills.

The thing that really confuses me is that some people have more vehicle/weapon kills than kit kills, and some people have more kit kills than vehicle/weapon kills. There would have to be 2 flaws for these stats to be possible, we thought of one possible one, but there has to be something to make it go in the opposite direction (getting credited for a kit kill, but not for a vehicle/weapon kill (edit: ooh, possibly arty?)).

About changing kits: I have noticed that when you grab a different kit, the kit icon beside your name on the scoreboard changes to match your current kit. I'm assuming whatever kit you are holding, you would get credit for a kill with that kit. I could be wrong though.

What about the [Killed] kills? Sometimes you'll blow up a blackhawk and get one or two [Stinger] kills or whatever, but the rest just say [Killed]...

                  For my stats
                  Weapon kills: 1361
                  Vehicle kills: 662
                  Road kills: 47
                  Total: 2070

                  Kit kills: 2060

                  Total kills listed: 2060

I *believe* that when this happens, it's considered "road kills" which again, I do not know if they are factored into the total kills for the particular vehicle or are suplimental.

Are there ever times when you [killed] someone with a non-vehicle? My memory isn't serving me very well today.

I can't recall.. if the wreckage of a vehicle you've killed kills someone, who gets credit? Driver with a TK, you with a [Killed] (or tk for friendly)? C4 a tank, driver hops out but is killed by the tank explosion rather than the C4 explosion, where does the credit go?

I know that most of the time, if I c4 a tank and the driver get's out, I still get a [C4] kill when I blow it....

But the [killed] anomaly would certainly give a good explanation why some people have a lower vehcile+weapon kill total vs. kit total / grand total. Now if we could just explain the overages.

Also, when if you were to AT a Blackhawk, and as it's going down smoking they jump out only to have it explode, you usually do not get a [Ernyx] kill, but instead get a [blackhawk] kill. I wonder if that registers in your "Helicopter" kill or maybe even Helicopter road kills?

So, we need to figure out why a kill would count in the vehicle or weapon category but not in the kit category... kills after you die.. Like ramming a full Blackhawk, you die so you don't have a kit, but then get 6 [J-10] kills, if by some stroke of luck the Blackhawk pilot doesn't get 5 TK's...? Throw a mine down, you die and don't have a kit assigned, mine kills someone..? I guess that's what Leviathan mentioned.

                          This makes my head hurt.

Alright, after thinking this over, I tried to put some order to the questions raised. Basically:

                            1) Do kills incurred while dead count? If so, do they count only for vehicle/weapon totals and not towards kit/grand total?

                            2) Do kills from explosives set from a previous spawn count? (i.e. engineer places mines, dies, then respawns, then gets kill for mine before they dissapeared)

                            3) Are the reported "road kills" for a vehicle included in the total kills for a vehicle, or are the in addition/supliment to the total?

                            4) Is there a way we can see our total artillery kills? And are they included in kit/grand totals?

                            5) Can you get a [killed] kill from a weapon or just vehicles? If so, does it count toward a weapon kill total?

                            6) When blowing a vehicle up, you sometimes get [vehicle] kills, instead of a [weapon]? Does this count towards the vehicle kill total or the weapon? If towards the vehicle, is it considered a road kill (and if so... see #3)

                            7) I know the answer is probably no, but do TK's contribute in any way to grand/kit/wehicle/weapon kill totals?

                            8) Do AT/AA weapon kills overlap with ground/air defense vehicle totals? (scored in both?) I.E. Is the stinger placement considered an air defense vehicle, an AT/AA weapon or both?

                            9) The anser is probably "the picked up kit", but when picking up other kits, do kills count towards the picked up kit or possibly your spawned kit?

                            10) Why the hell do we track "deaths while holding weapon." Why not "deaths by"... I thnik we all agree this is a much more useful stat. (Ok, I put this one in to make an even ten)

EDIT: I just thought of some other stat related questions:

A)What EXACT weapons/vehicles constitute Ground Defense, air defense, AT/AA and light machineguns (do the machine gun placements count?)

B)Why are C4/Mine/Claymore kills lumped into one category?

                            C) What constitutes a suicide stat point?

weird. just for fun I added my kills. My kit kills all add up to exactly my total kills and my vehicle + weapon kills all add up exactly to my total kills.

Just wanted to give another data point.
