Medals too high?

I agree that the requirements are too high. I'm guessing that the only people who will obtain some of these ribbons/medals and get most or all of the unlocks will make up a very small % of the bf2 community. There's a big chunk of us who are married, have a family, jobs etc... and will not be able to put in the vast # of hours required, nor would they even want to. I mean, some of us like to have lives. It's kind of disappointing knowing that I won't get to play with the various unlocks. Don't get me wrong, I love bf2 and unless something much better comes along I can see myself playing this game for some time to come, but 2000 hours?!?

Let's assume that someone plays BF2 everyday for 6 years.

To get the Distinguished Service Medal, he'll need to play 3 hours and 12 minutes on average per day.

I chose 6 years because Counter-strike is now almost 6 years old. And I don't think any other FPS shooter will ever match the longevity and popularity that CS received. EVER. And you can't just assume that its possible for anyone to play BF2 for 6 years. Sure, one hardcore player might WANT to play for 6 years, but will there be other players around? Will there even be RANKED servers around? Will EA even bother hosting the stats server in 6 years time?

You'd be hard pressed to find even 1/5th of the current BF2 population playing the game in 2 years time, by which time the next title will be out. The fact that Battlfield is a title franchise means no single version will ever last as long as CS as some people hope for. Because you'd be dumb not the buy the latest and greatest Battlefield title when it comes out.

about the ranks, I think they are fine, they are high but it has to be this way, the meals, those are realy high and actualy to high in my opinion

I think it should be changed from hours to kills. I also think that the stats will carry forward to say, BF3 :)

I honestly hope EA does not cave to people complaining about how long it takes to earn merits and honors in the game.

The excuse of not being able to donate the time to earn such high merits does not wash. I work a 40+ hour work week and a rank of Corporal and midway to my next rank. Others have a lot higher rank than myself. They donate more time to the game than I do and I have accepted that. I know my limits and do not complain.

You knew or had a rough idea from the many resource and info sites out there stating how much time it took to earn such awards. If you didn't, I'd have to call you a liar or a poor researcher.

Not everyone is meant to have the top honors. It is how it should be. It separates the dedicated from the casual.

Getting a cool medal after playing for two months would be great, and it still would feel rewarding.
if you are corporal and halfway to sarge, good for you, but your not the standard for the rest of the world.
It's your choice to play that much, it isn't something a lot of people will do.
I think the not-so-diehard deserve fun and gratification too.

Nor is the casual gamer the set standard for this game. Why should the game be toned down to cater to you? Because you cannot commit the time required? That is your problem to deal with.

I was just lookin at them, and most of them require over 2000 hours of play, and one of them you need 3000 hours as commander, 2000 as squad leader, 2000 as squad member. I dunno about you guys, but if I ever play this game for 7000 hours...somethings wrong.

Its all about patience and how long you play, now you wouldnt know it looking at my bf2 stats (although theres no way ive died 900 times ive only just started playing :P ) But in the game Americas Army i have 69 honour.

Now when you start playing AA you have 10 honour and you have to get 1000 points to go up to 11 and so on until you hit 20 honour after that you need 2500 points to go up one and by the time you get to 69 honour you need about 15000 points i think it is.

If your really good you might make 700 points + in a 7 round match but as im sure you can see it takes years of play to get really high honour so i guess the same principle applies here :)

Awards should take time and not be given to you because you feel you can only donate so much time to the game. Again, that is your life and for you to deal with.

If people want to complain about this, then EA needs to make awards and ribbons for the whiners and crybabies.

Like the Meritorious Waaaahbulance Award for those that want to run around and cry about everything until their boo boo gets a bandaid. :cry:

I think EA should make a leaderboard for the best overall (for any amount of time) and the people who do well for the amount of time they play. There should be different awards for each, so you can play a little and get awards if you do well in a little time, or you can play a lot and get awards for dedication and whatnot. That way everybody would be happy. (BTW, the "Rising Star" leaderboard does exist, but it doesnt say much. Everything else is mainly time based, with the top players over 100 hours of play, many over 200).

That's way too long. I play a lot and am only about 150 hours. Getting to 2000 without getting bored would be crazy.

LOL... so you honestly believe that within a period of 1-2 years, more than .. say... 50 people will have all of the awards?

It's outright stupidity.

If you play a video game for 2 years straight, you deserve to be atleast NEXT to the highest rank.

Americas Army is an extremely tight-ass game when it comes to rules and even they don't have it this bad. If you play Americas Army for 2 years straight you will most definitely have 100 honor, no doubt.

So what if 4,000 people have the highest rank? It's all about their personal experience...that's what matters. Ya know, earning medals.. moving up the ranks, etc
