Nice performance boost

so was it the upgraded processor or the new ram that made the biggest performance boost? (sorry, im not terribly familiar with amd's, i stick mostly to intels)

Considering im using the same X800 Pro, it has to be the ram and cpu. Definite worthwhile improvement.

I am telling you, it was the CPU I went from a P4 2.5GHz to an Athlon 64 3000+ and holy **** did I get a FPS boost! I moved to settings up a good ammount and I still got much better FPS than before. Just from a processor :)

My 3200+ XP with identical stats otherwise (oddly enough) gets the same speeds as the OP. 64 bit is not going to improve performance.

Oh, and windows 2000, not XP which the game isn't even rated for.

As someone else said though, the 64-bit processors have enhanced memory controllers and are smaller...
Also, what do you mean by it's not rated for XP?

Yeah i went from a PIII 733 with no video card and 128mb of ddr 333
and im getting a 939 pin AMD 64 3500+ i hope I will see the difference.
And to say the least i went to pricewatch.com and got a video card with 512MB. Humm maby 85 to 140fps? o

Oh and 2gigs od ddr on the 14th.

512mb is unneccessary and useless on video cards right now. Not to mention that the amout of ram isn't the most important thing.

It ain't worth getting the x2 right now because I heard peopel were having terrible performance while playing games.

Really high latencies with the x2 best bet is Athlon 64fx for gaming. Pricey though. Made specifically for gaming performance.

Just so happens I've played BF2 on socket A, socket 754 and socket 939. Socket 939 blows the other systems out of the water given approx same CPU speed. Main reason = true dual memory controller at 6000+ MB/sec.

You guys with decent puters try the ultra high settings, I got a noticeable 5-10 fps increase (search the forums not everybody gets an increase but quite a few do) and the quality is slightly noticeable. Dont forget to delete your shader cache c:\mydocs\bf2\mods\cache or something like that Its definately worth trying. And try different vid drivers too cause the different nvidia 77.xx drivers have maybe a 30 fps difference for me! 77.72s is what im using now.
