Personally anything other then tanks and jeeps does not make sense in the game to me since the maps are so small.

but I do like artillery personally, I get a rush when its coming down and enjoy trying to run for cover and aviod the total randomness of death from above.

and as for blowing it up, I enjoy the fact that keeping them out of comission means less mass death for my team, although some points wouldnt hurt either :P.

I hate the stuff. Its always my squad that is defending, sometimes its just a friend and me, we then get blown up every minute or whatever the reshoot time on that is just because the idiot commnader has nothing better to do

That is why I love the TWL 5 vs 5 infantry ladder, NO VEHICLES - NO ARTY!

There will be plenty of people stepping up to demolition duty, just wait. After 1.03 I doubt you will be experiencing arty strikes anymore.

I can see where its place is. But it is very frustrating because I always seem to be hit by the first missile in the strike, and am the only one who dies from it. I think that they shouldn't be able to be fixed if they are blown up on certain maps.

The pulsing artillery icon on your minimap isn't a hint that perhaps you need to vacate the area briefly, returning to defend the checkpoint AFTER the strike? :hmm:

yea, the Artillery SHOULD have a longer cooldown, imo

I don't really mind artillery. While it's a pain in the ass while you're trying to capture some points, or just plain walking around, it's all part of the game.

What bugs me the most are those damn helicopter whores

                          This thread is thematically similar to the R&R thread I started here;

                          http://forums.totalbf2.com/showthread.php?t=20067.

I find most arty kills are very cheap. Sadly, I accept them as the weapon of the opfor commander.

Also the artillery shouldnt cover such a wide spread area, it should be more condesed to hit in a smaller field.
I agree with that suggestion - that would produce a win-win result:

Those that hate artillery won't be wiped out by it as often

Those that get a rush from it...well, set your egg timer and when it's arty time, just run to the largest concentration of troops most likely to be hit and enjoy yourselves (I'll think of you as those solar eclipse hunters...)

I wish the artillery was in the hands of anyone who wanted it. not just the commander.

By the time the arty gets there, 7 of 8 enemy soldiers there are gone. And you only get 1 enemy. Then you see a medic come up and revive them (sometimes it seems to be possible).

at least give us a mortar.

I think its a great feature, the arty. But i think it also is a contributor to round the rosie type gameplay, that seems to be the way this game is played. ( i dislike that )
I mean why stay and defend a flag, when more or less, when you do that, your more then likely gonna be targeted by arty.
Again, I like the arty, but perhaps a more suitable situation would have been better. Perhaps, the mobil type arty, where the commander and guy operating the arty, would have to work together to target specific points. Maybe that would be better? Like in DC. Arty could be a problem But more often then not, it wasnt. I dont know. But i do think that the arty in this game contributes to the "NON DEFENSIVE" type gameplay that bf2 has. This game is mostly offense. And thats about it.

I agree with this post and I like this suggestion: "Perhaps, the mobil type arty, where the commander and guy operating the arty, would have to work together to target specific points". Maybe, to simulate the use of Artillery Locating Radars like Arthur, the location of the arty (and of the commander) would very brifly show up on the map. That should make the commander think twice before using it but he still has the ability to use it at some critical points during the game.
