Well, once the artillery has been removed in the 1.03 patch (yes, I believe in cold fusion and Bigfoot too) there are still ways for you to get your fix: just stand really close to a tank and everytime he fires, launch a M203 grenade at your feet. It comes darn close to the real thing...

I will agree with this post.
I think its a great feature, the arty. But i think it also is a contributor to round the rosie type gameplay, that seems to be the way this game is played. ( i dislike that )
I mean why stay and defend a flag, when more or less, when you do that, your more then likely gonna be targeted by arty.
Again, I like the arty, but perhaps a more suitable situation would have been better. Perhaps, the mobil type arty, where the commander and guy operating the arty, would have to work together to target specific points. Maybe that would be better? Like in DC. Arty could be a problem But more often then not, it wasnt. I dont know. But i do think that the arty in this game contributes to the "NON DEFENSIVE" type gameplay that bf2 has. This game is mostly offense. And thats about it.

Heres what I think. THAT ******* artillery should be limited to a really low number of uses. With a low number of uses the commander will actually have to use strategy instead of wasting his use on someone who is alone, such as a person defending a flag. Also the artillery shouldnt cover such a wide spread area, it should be more condesed to hit in a smaller field.

i dn't agree with u, i like the artillery but this made me laugh:

The artillery breaks up a game round into many short ones...it's like a friggin commercial in the middle of a great movie...some nice infantry combat going on...ARTILLERY STRIKE....allright, let's start again....whoho, excellent combat..Oh oh, run lads - it's arty time again....and so on...
            lol :p

The time the arty comes back needs to be higher, like 2 or 3 minutes higher.

                i agree
i liked it in the demo it was something new and fun but now it's just bloody tedious, howiemandle is correct as well about the defense as there is no point defending a flag as you know that 99% of the time that just as you cap that flag you'll get arty on your head so you normally just end up running off to cap another

and it really does grate when your having a really good infantry battle only to get stuffed by arty over and over again, its allways just as your getting into the game you get it and its crap.

I agree that in public servers artillary is a pain in the ass.
But in a clan match with a co-ordinated team artillary can be a real help and is really only used to weaken forces before an attack or for defence.
My clan rarely uses it in a big battle unless its definate that we're gunna lose it and we only have one or two guys left in the area.
I agree the best idea would be to lengthen the reload time to stop the constant spamming on the public servers...

Jesus, have a cry, why don't you.

Your commander has as much ability to wreak havoc on the enemy as their commander has to wreak havoc on your team. Yeah, it sucks to get arty on your head, but it's part of the game. It adds an extra challenge. Bear in mind that if you're capping an objective, you've just become a target for an arty attack. Take a look around and find some likely shelter, and stand as far from the flag as you can while still capping it. As soon as you hear that distinctive scream of incoming shells, run like hell, flag capped or not - enemy troops can't approach while the arty is coming in either, so you can complete the cap and call for back up as soon as the strike is over.

A successfully avoided arty strike is a good warning enemy troops are inbound to try and take the objective, so you can get in ambush positions and rack up some kills as they approach, thinking the site is clean.

                        I don't think it's a big deal!

I disagree - while it sucks to get nailed by enemy arty, especially when it happens several times in a round, both sides have the same ability, so rather than complain, get someone on your side to take command and make your arty count too.

And while arty may be used to take out a lone player here or there, the majority of the time it should be used on a concentration of enemy forces. More often than not, if arty is used on one or two players in a position, it's because the commander has no faith that his guys will get out of the arty zone if he drops it into a combat hotspot. Which, 99% of the time on a public server, is correct. See, many commanders are too scared to drop arty where it can be really effective because something like 75% of people will punish their own commander for a TK that they should have been able to avoid in most cases.

As for the patch and Special Ops getting points, they should get points. And it shouldn't have a huge impact on the command position. One of the first things a side should do in any battle is destroy the command assets, whether they're getting points for destroying them or not. No arty, scan or UAV essentially renders the commander impotent.

In addition, actually killing the enemy commander is great fun. Remember, they're more than likely in the command screen trying to drop supplies, arty, scans, call out enemy positions, etc. If they're not paying attention to what the scan shows being close to their location, they're an easy knife kill. Now if that's not satifying revenge for the arty he dropped on your head, I don't know what is...

I aint got nothing against arty except when your commander says to your squad "defend this area" and the procedes to wipe out 5 of your men with a friendly strike

I think it should really only apear on huge maps that mainly consist of vehicles.

Its like when people whore armored vehicles on infantry maps and frog leaping shooting off the M203. Whats the fun in that, anyone can just plonk a grenade at someones toes. Same goes for those people that try and get all the flags so you cant spawn, sometimes i wish there was a few urban maps with fixed flags and no vehicles or arty. And just have some decent fair fighting. Fair enough, im happy when someone shoots me but i get pissed off when people just sit in armored vehicles on maps you dont even need them on. Fair enough if you need it to take out another apc but all the time when im in a vehicle like that and there is just one person i see, i allways get out and have a fair gunfight. I prefer that anyway, as thats why i bought the game. Not to sit in a bullet invincible vehicle while i kill everyone to get points.

But yeah it seems weird arty is on a pretty much shooter styled game. It belongs in a game like mercenaries.

And that blowing up arty takes the piss. You blow up all the stuff and 2 seconds later they sent supplies and they are all fixed again.
