    Teamspeak vs. VOIP ?

I dont really understand why all the clans and whatnot are using teamspeak instead of the VOIP.. It seems like it works really well for organization.. squad leaders can talk to the CC and their squads separately and diff squads dont have useless chatter between them.

I dont have much experience with Teamspeak, but it seems like an "open lobby" where anyone can talk to anyone which seems like it would get confusing. The only reason I can see is that the clans have been using it from before and are hesitant to change.

voip takes up more bandwidth ingame, also voip only covers 6 ppl, you may be playing with 7 or more clan mates, thats where the teamspeak comes in.

The VOIP quality is in my experience appaling, and as such clans will continue to use TeamSpeak and Ventrilo (ventrilo > teamspeak imo).

Within these programs you can set up different channels etc so that the commander can talk to different squads.

Also VOIP will use the game server for all the voice comms data, therefore i guess it could degrade the performance of the server when it gets real chatty.

in some tweak guides they have recommended turning voip off because of the bandwidth usage.

we use ventrilo - works great -in game VIOP is awful

is there a way to have separate comms for differents squads on Ventrilo
yet still let the commander talk on all channels?

Team Speak .... you can talk between maps, you can talk if you wanna change server, you can laugh at your enemy when you kill them and they can hear you LOLOLOL etc etc.

Teamspeak is great - What happends when you want to speak to your team when the game is loading??? Or when the game has finished/changing? You cant thus also another reason why its best...quality of voice in TS at 16k is much better also.

teamspeak/vent is great com system to use instead of the voip in game crap. for one hell teamspeak/vent ya can actualy hear people have clear conversations. the voip lags the server is hard to hear people and the game sound is so damm loudyou cant hear anything else but the ringing in your ear.

VOIP is not that good comparing to Teamspeak as you only talk to your squad making it hard for pilot and co pilot to communicate
                      They should make team VOIP

I've used um all ever since roger wilco. But our server does run Voip and we also run a 50 person vent server (since switching from TS). So i set up both buttons and usually i am talking to clan mates on vent (r/b mouse button) and to team mates on squad (L/b mouse button). Seems to work good cause somethings i only want to talk to one set of people. Very multi-task!

for me, i can't use VOIP. Lags me real bad. So i have to run with it disabled.

My clan uses Teamspeak but we have seperate channels for different games and different servers so the idle chatter doesn't really get in the way as their are only those playing in the server in the channel . Also I nearly had to change my pants the first time someone spoke to me on VOIP.

My VOIP works fine(Audigy2 ZS)and I'll tell you why I like it better than Teamscreech:

1.Reduces in-game sound while speaking--I fly a jet alot and I can't hear jack when anyone in TS is talking to me. VOIP pads the sound effects so I can actually hear what is said, all without tweaking the SFX level in options.

2.VOIP is superior in aiding command chain--The way VOIP is set up, it makes the squads a well oiled machine. With teamspeak, the commander has to mess with channel commander in order to switch talking to other squads, and then he has to hear all the chatter from the entire squad. With VOIP, the commander can....well, command! Straight to his squad leaders without having to talk over all the infantry chatter.

3.VOIP gives an indicator of who is speaking--"Look behind you!" "Gimme a medpack!" "Who, where?" and a myriad of confusing chatter just make everything chaotic in teamspeak. I know there might be TS overlay programs, but I haven't seen any yet for BF2.

I highly recommend to clans that they get VOIP working properly. It will probably require a new sound card, but is well worth it IMO. Also, try setting the slider on the mic configuration all the way down. It is "press to talk", so I don't understand why you would want a noise filter anyway. My guess is that people who are saying that VOIP is too choppy are listening to people who don't have their mic configured correctly.

I also think there is some misinformation about the bandwidth issue as well. I have commanded in a full 64-player server with all my squad leaders using VOIP and the match ran smooth as silk. If someone can provide some proof of the latency issue, I would love to see it. My guess is that you think it's lag when it's really your sound card. I know TS runs smoothly in the background, but the netcode is slow as molasses. The delay is horrid.

There aren't many reasons why you can't use both. TS would give you an extra channel reserved for only the most important of warnings. I use both most of the time when I am on VOIP enabled servers.

With TS, I find many times that my mates are using it for things they should be using the Q and T radial menus for(i.e. supply drops, spotting, requesting backup) It is so much easier to find who needs what when you can see it on the mini-map, eh? Use the radials. It will reduce chatter regardless of which voice program you use.

I've been trying to get my clan to switch over, but it's tough to convince some. The sound card issue is probably the biggest obstacle. Teamspeak will have to do for now, but I am going to keep pressing the issue.

In all, if you get this option working right, you will definitely have a major advantage on the Battlefield.
