I have no experience with mapping for any of the Battlefield games but I have some experience with the UnrealED, Hammer, and DEdit (for the Lithtech engine from the no one lives forever games and Aliens vs Predator 2, the editor sucks) so I thought I would give BF2 a try once the editor comes out
since I was a huge fan of BF1942 and BF2 is pretty damn good too.
My map idea is a USvsMEC map that I am unsure of the size of yet, but it is composed of three main landforms, an island in the southwest corner that has cliffs on the shore (you will learn why later), a relatively flat landmass in the northeast corner that makes up the majority of the map's landmass, and a single mountain that has two summits that is the southeastern part of the center of the main landmass.
The map has one uncapturable US spawn, and 4/3 uncapturable MEC spawns, with 2 capturable US spawns on the mountain. The uncapturable US spawn is on the smaller landmass, and it is an airbase with two bombers and several blackhawks. All the MEC spawns have some armor and vehicles (this is why the airbase has cliffs instead of beaches, so the MEC can't attack with their multitude of APCs), one may have an attack helicopter, I am undecided about whether that is a good idea or not.
One of the capturable US bases is on a summit about 2/3rds the way up the mountain, and it has some APCs and maybe a tank there. The summit has a fairly large flat area, and some buildings. There are also a few bunkers overlooking the roads up the mountain (which are steep and switchbacked). The base at the highest summit has a much smaller area, a small flat area immediately around the flag, a helipad off to the side, and the rest is composed of some buildings and bunkers built into the side of the hill.
The main idea of the map is for the MEC to try to use their superior ground firepower to attack the relatively vulnerable US ground forces and push them off the land. The US forces are dug in, in preparation for the MEC attack, and they need to use the high ground and their static defenses in conjunction with their superior air power to fight back the MEC. If the US loses the lower spawn, they lose all their vehicles to the MEC, but they have one final spawn that will be extremely costly to take if defended properly, but if taken, they lose.
Here is a picture of my idea
Thoughts?
I have three main concerns about the map :
1. The MEC might just overrun the US.
2. The US defenses may turn it into a war of attrition
3. US airpower may be overly decisive.
And again, I am uncertain of whether adding a MEC attack helicopter would be a good idea, it would allow the MECs to attack the airbase, but it also would give them increases ability to assault the summits that might be necessary.
