    map idea

I have no experience with mapping for any of the Battlefield games but I have some experience with the UnrealED, Hammer, and DEdit (for the Lithtech engine from the no one lives forever games and Aliens vs Predator 2, the editor sucks) so I thought I would give BF2 a try once the editor comes out since I was a huge fan of BF1942 and BF2 is pretty damn good too.

My map idea is a USvsMEC map that I am unsure of the size of yet, but it is composed of three main landforms, an island in the southwest corner that has cliffs on the shore (you will learn why later), a relatively flat landmass in the northeast corner that makes up the majority of the map's landmass, and a single mountain that has two summits that is the southeastern part of the center of the main landmass.

The map has one uncapturable US spawn, and 4/3 uncapturable MEC spawns, with 2 capturable US spawns on the mountain. The uncapturable US spawn is on the smaller landmass, and it is an airbase with two bombers and several blackhawks. All the MEC spawns have some armor and vehicles (this is why the airbase has cliffs instead of beaches, so the MEC can't attack with their multitude of APCs), one may have an attack helicopter, I am undecided about whether that is a good idea or not.

One of the capturable US bases is on a summit about 2/3rds the way up the mountain, and it has some APCs and maybe a tank there. The summit has a fairly large flat area, and some buildings. There are also a few bunkers overlooking the roads up the mountain (which are steep and switchbacked). The base at the highest summit has a much smaller area, a small flat area immediately around the flag, a helipad off to the side, and the rest is composed of some buildings and bunkers built into the side of the hill.

The main idea of the map is for the MEC to try to use their superior ground firepower to attack the relatively vulnerable US ground forces and push them off the land. The US forces are dug in, in preparation for the MEC attack, and they need to use the high ground and their static defenses in conjunction with their superior air power to fight back the MEC. If the US loses the lower spawn, they lose all their vehicles to the MEC, but they have one final spawn that will be extremely costly to take if defended properly, but if taken, they lose.

Here is a picture of my idea

    Thoughts?

I have three main concerns about the map :
    1. The MEC might just overrun the US.
    2. The US defenses may turn it into a war of attrition
    3. US airpower may be overly decisive.

And again, I am uncertain of whether adding a MEC attack helicopter would be a good idea, it would allow the MECs to attack the airbase, but it also would give them increases ability to assault the summits that might be necessary.

I guess I need to make my map controversial to get any feedback?

Or maybe people don't like to read much?

        Thank you Slug.

In case no one wants to read the whole OP, I'll summarize:

I have some experience mapping in other games, so I decided that I want to try making a Battlefield 2 map. In my idea, the US has an airbase on a island, and two spawns on a mountain surrounded by uncapturable MEC bases.

The MEC have superior ground forces, but they have to fight their way up hill against dug in USMC troops, who also have superior air support. If the MEC can capture the lower USMC base, then the MEC will take all the USMC vehicles, and the USMC will be endanger of being pushed off the main landmass back to their airbase, and will have to rely on the terrain to defend their final foothold.

Refer to the OP for more detail and a picture.

Very nice... that road would make for some excellent choke-point fire fights.

I think this sounds good, i just hope these kind of maps will get people to use teamwork.

Sounds good, but I reckon the US would just get raped by the amount of opposing vehicles.

I dont think so, this kinda map will force people to use team tactics. Lots of AT-guys, Spec Ops and Engineers could stop those pesky enemy vechiles. Couple of Supporters and snipers killing infantry. I think this map COULD be great and it has lot of potential.

Not to mention two bombers. The vehicles will have to stick to the roads because of the steep terrain, and if the pilots are any good they can just obliterate any large columns of enemy vehicles. That would make it so that it would be hard for the MEC to attack the US all at once, and instead have to attack one at a time or only a few vehicles at a time, making it easier for their infantry to deal with the attacks.

But you are right, it probably will take some testing and tweaking to determine how to properly balance the two sides, especially how many and what vehicles the MEC should have to properly assault the mountain without being overwhelming.

Does anyone forsee any problems with the map? Any changes you would make yourself or any ideas on how to improve it?

now what could make that map really awesome if it was a night map. In like a think ovegrowth setting so to counter the vehicles us could use some stealth tactics.

oooooo yeah. make a small "complex" inside the mountain, two-three rooms, with a large "front" door area, and a small tunnel leading down some stairs, long passageways (with cover), to the bottom of the mtn/hill.

The US spawn points will have buildings built into the mountain. It might not be a bad idea to connect the two bases through the interior of the mountain. MEC forces could send infantry through the underground system to try to capture the top base if they capture the middle one, or the US could launch an infantry assault to try to retake the middle base. Could make for some close infantry combat to go along with all the vehicle vs infantry stuff.
