Bealive me it is a problem, especially if your C: system drive has less than 2-3 GB free space

I originally had 768MB of ram and I recently bought another 512MB but lost a stick of 256MB to make room for the 512MB to take me up to 1GB. I sold the 256MB and guess what, the new 512MB started to develep errors etc and it packed in. So basically Im now down to 512MB and OMG the game ran really slow on the settings I had. The game pretty much ran from the Swap File which gave me frame rates of about 5FPS. To sort it dropped everything to low/off and it ran fine. The new ram arrives today.

It may not be the ammount of ram you have, but more of a issuse with the speed of your ram. Isnt the Front Side Bus of your system 333Mhz? It maybe struggling to transport all of the info. In comparison the stock FSB of my processor is 800Mhz, + its in dual channel, doubling my memory bandwidth.

It's a lack of memory alright what causes these lags/stutterings. I increased my page file to 2560 Mb and it really helped. ISHII[IL]'s post even confirms this. He has 3 Gb page file and game runs fine... The thing is that Windows sets max page file size to 1536 Mb with 1 gig of ram. BF2 uses much more, last time I checked memory usage peaked at over 1,6 Gb. Do the math.
