Game starts to lag after a few mins

i got the game the day it came out, and haven't gotten this problem till recently. I have a 7800gtx, amd 3500+ 64bit, a gig of ram, and using an nforce4 mobo.
I run at 1600x1200 with everything high except for lighting which is at medium.

Since last night, after being in a server for 5 mins or so, the game starts to lag up on me hard core. its like my frame rate gets dropped to 7 fps about and making it impossible to play. I'm wondering if anybody else is getting this problem and maybe what to do about it.

Clear out your cache folder in your "My Documents" folder. My Docs > BF2 > mods > bf2 > cache

I noticed this on a friend's system, its basically your system, but make it a 3200+ and 6800 ultra but make that 2 gb of ram instead - add more ram. It seems the game is still loading stuff as you get into the game and that is bloody annoying.

Should run fine after adding a bit more ram...though have you looked around and optimized your PC?

Re-install video drivers, use Driver Cleaner 3 in the processs, update your sound drivers, mobo drivers, any other drivers for things on your computer. If you're using onboard sound get a sound card, if you refuse to get a sound card, then put the rendering to software see if that helps. But since you spend 500+ doallars on a video card, $71 for sound card shouldn't be that huge of a sacrifice.

but that makes no sense.. it worked FLAWLESSLY until last night. smooth as butter. and then i get this choppyness. i just bought another 512 today to try to fix it because i thought that was the problem but it didn't fix it so i just returned it. it doesn't make sense for it to be a hardware problem if it just started happening last night.

i got a sound blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platnum pro, and i updated all my drivers. i've tried all that stuff and thats why im here because maybe its something i haven't thought of yet.

Defrag, disk clean up, anti-virus scan, anti-spyware scan, anti-adware scan.

One thing you have to learn about computers.....sometimes, they don't make sense....

done all that as well. i know computers. ive tried everything... i was maybe thinking its something BF2 specific that i just don't know about. it doesn't happen for any other game.

try lowering the rez, set geometries to medium, along with all lighting options and view distance to 85-90%

Here try this.....

First off, run this:

After that is done....

Get this:

Install both of those.

Then get this:

Install it, then do this:

Open C:/Windows/system32

Find the file "OpenAL32.dll" Copy this file, but do not paste it yet.

Now open C:/Program Files/EA Games/BAttlefield 2/ find the file named "BF2OpenAL.dll" rename it "BF2OpenAL.origianl". Now paste the file we got from your system32 folder. Rename this file to "BF2OpenAL.dll". Start the game and reset your Audio to "hardware", "high" "eax enabled".

Test it out. See if it helps any. There is one optional step and that is this one:

Open DxDiag (Start>Run>"dxdiag"). On the sound tab change the acceleration to Basic.





Also if you have "already done this". Do it again as the software update will install all updates, and then you will just reinstall different drivers that will have the OpenAL support for BF2. Then you get the latest OpenAL wrapper for Windows, and replace the crappy BF2 one, reset your in-game settings, and hopefully all is cured!

It's hard-drive lag being caused from a pagefile memory setting. Basically, I too have a gig of ram, but less specs and still suffer from lag, but it's only temporary. You have to manually adjust your pagefile memory setting under Windows to 1024 MB. Secondly, I recommend setting textures to low (keep everything else as to what you want). This will reduce the stutter lag to about 3-4 minutes. It will do it once on the first map you play, then never do it again as long as you don't reset your computer.

ok, update...

i put on renderer.drawfps 1 so i can see my fps to see if its a lag issue or video issue and i am always at 90-100 fps... however, when this lag spike hit, it drops to 15, no more no less.

also, antseezee, how do i adjust pagefile settings?

Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintanince > System > Advanced > Performance ~ Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory > Set > 2560 ~ Set ~ Apply

It will require a restart.
