Time to return BF2?

Actually i can return it in for store credit in ebgames, theyll probebly give me 25 store credit wich is the same as 25 bucks but it aint money. And like i said before i had reformatted my computer and installed bf2, tried it without the game patch, stuttering still there, tried with the patch, stutter still there, then i tried with catalyst 5.6 and it actually worked smooth for about 20mins and all of the sudden it started doin it again.

Do you have a antivirous system?

Anti virus/Firewall off on the background thats all i ever have on the background, on the audio part it was already on Software i turned the audio detail to low and the stuttering is still there. So everything on Grapichs detail to audio detail is on the lowest, i dont get whats the point of goin up on the detail if it is still there on low? it did help alittle but cmon i mean jeez with my system (im not saying that its the best) i should be able to play the game fine with everything on medium and AA off. On the demo i never ever had any stuttering what so ever it worked smooth always with the grapichs on medium AA off on 64 player servers.

Well is this a Network thing maybe (guessing)? Does it still studders in single player mode? If not, it might not be a Hardware or driver thing at all.

Well alot of time has past and still theres no fix for my problem, wich is stuttering, when i use ALT-Fire it stutters and its impossible to shoot right. Any suggestions?

Some guy suggested a new computer, don't listen to him - your computer is capable of playing BF2 on meduim with a few things set to high. How do I know this?

My spec:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ , ATI 9800 Radeon Pro 128MB , 1.5GB RAM and AC97 onboard sound card.

I had stuttering and poor performance playing BF2 with _everything_ set to LOW. Did everything you tried too. After having messed around with the sound settings I now play with everything set to medium @ 1024 with no stuttering at all.

You dont mention which sound-card you're using but regardless I'm pretty sure your problem (as was mine) is sound-related.

Firstly, get the latest sound card drivers. Try different hardware acc levels in dxdiag. Try different in-game sound settings.

I'm sorry I can't be more detailed but I'm really don't know exactly what I did. Please dont spend a heap of money on a new computer just for BF2, I really believe that you can get this game to work with your current pc.

Here's a few things you might have over looked which helped me get on with the game.
Check virtual mem.
Turn off firewall
disable any ethernet ports you are not using because pb freaks out with more than one.
Check your ram settings. Make sure you have the timings and voltage right. (which is what solved my stutter/lag and jumpy ping rates.)
I think memory issues almost deep sixed this game. Check with whoever made your ram and get the opt. time settings and voltage. It made a huge difference for me.

What sound card do you have?

My 9800 Radeon pro does have 256 Mb i got the box on my lap right now and it says 256 MB DDR complete microsoft directX 9.0 and openGL support. Ok i went to control panel then sound, speech and audio devices then sounds and audio devices it says that i got a Vinyl AC'97. I just asked my brother what soundcard i got (hes the one who built the comp) and he said that the comp doesnt have a soundcard, that the soundcard is built in the motherboard. Also he said that it says Vinyl AC97 because of the driver. I havent clocked anything, and yes i do have a anti virus system wich i always turn off before starting the game. I also did the download speed test thing and it said download speed 5185 kbps, 447 kbps upload speed

Ive tried multiple things to fix it, reformatting, unninstalling and reinstalling drivers, tryin older drivers, installing punkbuster manually, deleting folders in cache, hmmm i dont know ive spent more time tryin to make this game work smooth than actually playing it. I had hope that a catalyst or a Bf2 patch would fix it but no its still there. Any suggestions?

I also have a 64/3000 mobo and using a ATI 9800PRO/256..

my stuttering stopped when I added another 1GB stick of ram.

p.s. I dont think you want your aperature 256..
I always set my aperature to 1/2 of my vid cards mem total. i.e. 128

Ive discovered something, first i was playing on a 32 player server that had around 60 90 ping and the game was running great, the alt fire stutter was almost completely gone but then i said ok now lets test on a nother sever and see what happens so i went to a 62 player server with the same ping, pb, headset on, and it was ranked just like the first one i joined but different name and its 62 players, so i used alt fire button and it stuttered badly. This is how i noticed it, while im turning around i go in and out of alt fire and i can tell if its worse when it freezes while im turning, it freezes for like a 1 and then it keeps turning, its weird, i dont know whats causing this problem, but it looks like the more players there are in the server the worse the stuttering is. Yes it also does it in SP but i can barely notice it. So ya each time i get out of ALT FIRE my game stutters badly, and the weapon like jumps alittle right after i get out of the alt fire. Any new ideas what it might be? Thanks
