If you have a hard firewall/router, try connecting your comp directly to net with software firewall on. It may be your firewall/router. The reboot issues that others are talking about are likely heat issues.

Nope, Catalyst 5.7 driver issues. The error message after reboot actually HELPED in solving the problem by saying it was a problem with ATI software. Earlier that day I had installed the 5.7 driver.

Wow, the problem remains! I even through an additional gig of RAM at it. SO im now up to 2 gigs. I HAVE the latest firmware version for my router. Can anyone think of ANYTHING ELSE that may be causing stuttering gameplay (IE i move forward, and i let go, but i keep going without wanting to) I also went through EA tech support, and they told me this:

I'm sorry, but it seems we have exhausted all the options here. I'm sorry we could not get your game working.

If you wish to return the game, here is your warranty information:

More then likely the store you bought it at will not accept the return because the box has been opened. In this case, you can send the game back to our Warranty department and we will give you a sealed copy of the game so that the store will accept the return."

Did you ever try connecting sraight from your comp to your modem with software firewall on? I'm still concerned it's your firewall/router even with updated firmware.

Another possibility is your network card...may be struggling with buffering packets. If you can, try setting your network card to optimize for speed instead of cpu use.

I'm sure you tried this already...but set game graphics to all the LOW settings and lowest resolution.

I agree...you might have to drop the router. 1 gig and I was running smooth. As for your file....see here

Here's a great question....give us all your specs....maybe your processor is too slow?

When troubleshooting problems like these, it's best to test the game in single-player first. That way you take out any possible internet connection problems. If the game works in SP, you've narrowed it down to some kind of problem with the connection.

Hmm, I actually overlooked your earlier post for some reason

Could you explain to me how i can optimize my network card and also run my comp without using the router, and how to set it back (my family needs to use the internet, so i dont want to steal the connection away) I remember being at the screen before, i just DONT remember how to get back to it... Also, i have a P4 2.8 Ghz, i DONT think its like of proc power as I've heard 2.4 is plenty sufficient.

PS-It isnt someone on another comp hogging bandwidth with a chat or filesharing program, because the other night i SHUT OFF the other comp, and the game still managed to be slooow.

ALSO, i seem to experience similar, but not as severe stuttering in signle player.......

Ok, before i say anything, here are my specs:

1gb RAM
radeon 850XT PE 256mb

Now, my game gets constant stuttering online, that includes the "there is a problem with your connection" message flahing, as well as overall warpy (game stops for like 5 secs, and whatever direction i was going in sticks, and i end up 10 feet away) I have all settings on medium and most of the dynamic settings on low. I have reinstalled the game and patch and manually updated punkbuster. I have opened ALL the necessary ports on my firewall/router and have also changed my hardware accelleration, stopped all non system BG tasks (even explorer) and lowered my overall resolution. The game STILL STUTTERS, even on singleplayer, i get some slight graphical stuttering(not as bad as online, but still, WTF??!!?)

The only possible problem i see right now is that i have an instance of "wuauclt.exe" rtunning under my user name, and an identical process under "System" Is it possible the first instance is a trojan or worm causing computer troubles? I have also done those registry enabling tricks (enable by changing 0 to 1) AND MY GAME STILL LAGS HORRIBLY. I connect to a multitude of servers, with pings ranging from 125-400 and i get identical results. anyone have ANY IDEAS?? :cry:

EDIT: i forgot to mention i have the catalyst 5.7 driver for my card, but the game still lagged with the original drivers

The freezing / Lag can be attributed to "several things" .....Heat on CPU and vid card or both, lack of RAM and virtual memory being allocated (allowed to be used) to the game program, over filling of cache game file, memory dumps, bad file copying of program - punkbuster-patch, overloaded CPU, sound on MoBo and cards (as KingOfKhaos will add ) etc etc.


To find the fault do one then try

Have you ??? (Not in any particular order) but DaLancer do # 6 first and try.

2) Set your "virtual memory" correctly? for size of RAM used? TO change virtual memory SETTINGS....
START > RIGHT CLICK MY COMPUTER > PROPERTIES > ADVANCED > PERFORMANCE > SETTINGS > ADVANCED > VIRTUAL MEMORY > CHANGE > PUT CURSOR IN THE "INITIAL SIZE" AND CHANGE (i HAVE FOR MY 1 GB SET THIS AT 2500 > CANE MAX SIZE (FOR THIS i HAVE SET 4000) > SET > OK APPLY > REBOOT FOR CHANGES TO TAKE EFFECT!
