I'm assuming you are only doing this for infantry, since you are using the term skin. I would say that I use both. I usually don't encounter the red tag bug, so if I see red tag I shoot. If I get 1 tk from it oh well I know its getting buggy and time to ignore the tags. One tk once in a while, especially if its due to red tag bug, is not gonna hurt anybody.

As for vehicles, I go by the tag a lot more, only because me and my friends I play BF2 with all love to steal vehicles from the enemy, especially the helicopters. Do not assume just because the vehicle is an enemy vehicle that an enemy is driving it. Could be a teamate jacked a ride.

skins, although it can be hard to tell sometimes in darker settings, inside buildings, in shade, etc.

How to tell without the tag:

            MEC

"He looks like a Arab so....he's the enemy!"
            "Thats a RPK-74..."
            "Dragonv sniper rifle....HMM!"
            "Black spec ops hat....MEC!"
            "Thats a AK and I have a M16. Uh..."
"He's wearing a darker uniform than me..."
            "Thats a T-90...HELP?"

            Chinese
"He looks like a gook and he has a big AK-47....he's the enemy!"
"Red Specs ops hat and looks like a chink....CHINESE!"

            USMC
            (Desert map)"Thats a bright uniform...AMERCIANS!"
(Chinese map)"He's not a brown skin..."
"Spiffy Desert Camo Baseball hat...american spec ops!"
            "Thats a M16...."
"Thats the only army that has black people...."

I think I have uniform recognition problems, in that in some maps friend and foe look nigh on identical. This is compounded if you are getting switched. There's really little difference for me, so I wait for a red or blue tag. I get killed a bit more for hesitating, but less TKs.

If you pop ure site over somewone and there tags are red you ARE gonna shoot, who the hell has time to admire the damn uniform from 100+ yards out??? Plus with some ppl playing this game with low settings it would take forever to distinguish the difference from a distance. Jeez lad you talk some $hit in here and im pretty sure its just to be an awkward pr*ck.

changing kits doesnt change your uniform to the other team does it?

Other night, kubra dam, I'm anti tank, in a bit of a skirmish around a flag when a t80 (or whatever the tanks are) rolls in with a red name tag. One AT rocket/missile later (previously damaged no doubt)and boomboom. Then "you were punished for team kill"

For infantry I go by the skins now.
