Agreed. Games like this should have balance. Everything should have a (working) counter and right now aircraft are flying Jedi-Knights.

To me, the Linebacker is an apc with more missiles (that don't go where you want them to unless you have lock on) and have less armor, the rest just have super fast firing peashooters that can take down helis fast, they are death to helis, in a couple of bursts, the heli is flaming, the peashooters are good against infantary though, took out so many by just camping with that. They mean death to everything except for tanks and apcs, although if you come behind one by surprise and are close enough, 4 missiles will do a LOT of damage, plus a nice gun to help you take them down, but a goood attack heli pilot with a nice gunner will let the gunner take you down with a TV-guided missile, and jets just own any nonhidden vehicle.

I wish people would stop comparing weapons and vehicles to real life, it aint gonna happen... now wanting balance is another thing.

As for AA vehicles, the only time I shoot down jets with them is usually on kubra dam map as you have a high altitude from the damn wall anyway. Dragon valley is usually only helo's.

I'd rather use either a Ma Duce (.50 cal) or an APC to take down a helo. You won't get betrayed by your radar and the damage seems more significant with the APC guns than the AAA tank guns.

If the enemy plane is engaged in a dogfight with one of your planes I would not even bother trying, due to the fact that the missile will end up going for your plane landing you a tk.

The Heavy buggies do a better job of shooting jets down. If you don't take them out it keeps them away for a fair ammount of time.

people always complain about the stingers and their 'lock-on' and how they are crap...

                there not!

its not a 'lock-on' as such, it just means its detected a heat source, and if your stupid enough to fire at and enemy helicopter thats in a close up dog fight with one of your choppers, then you deserve the TK punish.

Get the lock, wait.... if your chopper doesnt win the engagement wait for the enemy to fire off his counters THEN fire at him. you might find that you dont get as many TK's with this method.

and before someone replies to this with 'waaa waaa i wont get as many kills/points' - go play WoW

Agreed, the scumbags with joysticks are owning everyones ass. They can take out helos full of people, ground forces and other aircraft almost with impunity.

The mobile AA is almost useless against them, they are gone before you get a solid lock, and even if they hang around they just drop flares and that gives them all the time in the world to turn around and flatten you. Firing without a lock is worse than useless, you might take out your own forces but frankly I've never seen them hit **** without a lock and a rearward shot.

The guns on the AA are only of any use against infantry and for scaring slow helos, and I've lost count of the times I've run out of ammo with them. Until they do something to balance it up I'm afraid pilots are going to have an easy time of it.

Gaaah. I wish people would stop complaining about people who compare weaps and vehicles in BF2 to their real life counterparts. It aint gonna stop.

As I've said before, when a game developer chooses to feature modern weapon systems that are accurately modelled visually if not performance wise, you are inviting comparisons with real life. People can say "It's only a game, and an arcade game at that", but as long as the guns fire bullets and not spinning disks of plasma or bouncing razor sharp frisbees there are going to be people who comment on their performance with respect to real life. There is nothing wrong with this, it's natural, so please try to deal with it because it's not going away.

I understand about balance, and right now I'm thinking that the AA vehicles need their armour improved, especially against transport helo door guns.

I love the AA, especially the tunguska thing, takes out infantry perfectly...what....what's that you say?.......it's supposed to take down aircraft!....get away!

If you point it at a plane and set off the warning siren in the cockpit or if you try to take down a bhawk in one of them, and the door gunner can fire at you, I hope ya put on ya clean keks, cause' the undertaker don't want ta see ya skiddies :salute:

I've gotten a few jet kills with the AA and quite a few chopper kills. Mostly infantry though lol.

I do see a problem with mobile AA. Never shot down an Aircraft, and yes I did get the locks. After I fire a missle, the enemy Aircraft starts to drop flares/Chaffs. So I fire another and the missles goes stray, the plane is gone. For heli's I end up destroyed quickly and yes I do lock first. Fire many missles and guns. Really odd, when their is no friendly around, I get message.."Team vehicle damage!" message, also "TeamKill". But their is no person I have TKed. So, I do use em for ground attacks, then take chances on aircrafts. Pointless for Air cover, even on high ground. I use tanks on helis, they do better when shooting the belly of the heli.

It is a lock until broken by flares.

If you always use the wait strategy, guess what, the jets will learn and never use flares, lol. You'll be waiting... waiting... waiting... and the jet pilot will be laughing... laughing... laughing. If you wait till after the dogfight, they don't need flares to avoid stingers. A simple turn and burn and the stinger misses every time.

Pretty much like it is now, just without the tks.

mobile AA vs. jets - yeah, could use some help...I've never been able to do much with it in those instances.

but mobile AA vs. helos - ugh....as a helo pilot they are menacing. On some of the thin/long maps like fushe pass and dragon pass a smart AA gunner will hang out in the middle of the map somewhere, everything is bound to fly by him. Got taken down a couple times last night by one on dragon pass, and we had 2 engineers in a BH fixing like mofos...

Mobile AA hidden in some trees somewhere with a supply guy to keep it reloaded will take down any copter it wants to.

Jets only get taken down by other jets, if the pilot is experienced.
