    AA vehicles

Has anyone managed to actually take down a jet with these? I played one round dedicated to using the chinese mobile AA and I only managed to take down 1 blackhawk during the entire round.

The flack is difficult to use. I try and aim ahead of the target with the flack cannons but I still cant hit the jets.

I have to agree that the guns on the mobile AA are way under powered and has too little ammo. There are multiple times when I've completely used up all the ammo in that tank.

Jets are rarely shot down by these in real life.

They're pretty effective when used right. They are airplane MAGNETS though. Average lifespan is about 30 seconds for those things..

So now the game IS striving for realism?

Either option indicated the game needs some serious overhauling.

I'm talking about choppers here. In real life choppers aren't that heavily armored so it should be quite easy to take them, but in the game, that is not try. I do better with a heavy mounted mg for god sake.

If you wish to mount a stationary AA gun attempting to shoot planes, you may aswell save yourself the trouble and hit suicide.

I find them better for killing infantry, and if your taking on an apc or a tank get right up its arse an fire the missiles, theres a chance they might hit and i believe it does quite abit of damage.

These are fairly fast...but lightly armored. Mobile defense to scare away helos and keep aircraft at range.

Or maybe they are just around to activiate that annoying locked on alarm.

these things just scare jets, like Ion said

Last night I tried AA vehicle, result: -10 TK. You just can't tell where those missiles are gonna go if they loose their lock-on. Oh, and there was a happy ending also to this experiment: own Cobra came and TK'd me
Didn't punish, because I'm pretty sure that I accidentally shot him with those great "avoid-enemies-look-for-friendlies-instead" -missiles.

Edit: I have shot down enemy helicopters with AA vehicles using cannons and I got one jet too last night using missiles. This doesn't help, though. You're bound to lose points because of inaccurasy of those missiles

The only thing that can bring down aircraft are....other aircraft. AA in BF2 right now are only good vs helos.

Really? I find them very effective against choppers. In fact, if I'm manning a mobile AA, provided the chopper doesn't sneak up on me without me seeing it, I'd say there's about an 80 to 90% chance that any chopper within about 400 meters isn't making it back to their heli-pad. My TKs with them, while they do happen form time to time, are very few and far between as well. Basically, you just don't shoot if there is a friendly chopper anywhere within your field of view and you're safe, the missiles can't do 360s or 90 degree turns.

They are pretty much useless against jets though... you might as well be trying to take down a jet with an APC. I really, really think that BF2 needs some sort of more effective ground based method for taking out jets. Jets go too much unchallenged currently, IMHO. If you don't have a decent pilot on your team, and the other team does, one jet pretty much gets free reign over your entire team.

That would be an alright statement had BF2 been remotely close to a realistic game. However, being that it is an arcade game, your comment doesnt mean ****.
