I sometimes run into friendly artillery fire just because I wasn't paying attention to the map, but to what's infront of me. But if I get killed by it, I never punish.

I've been doing that for ages, Also another tip is to see where the enemy have just been, if for example the take the middle left base on karkand ... chance are they will go for the direct middle base straight away (usually a hmv based group of them) so instead of waiting for them to move and take the flag half way set artillery straight up on the CP, I've done this dozens of times and prevented a flag cap while running to the base they DID capture to get it back. Another good one is to drop Crate on a sniper that people just can't seem to find :POriginally posted by GatorDawgOne of my favorite tips I've ever heard is this:
If you see a group of enemies gathered somewhere on scan, especially if a fight has just taken place and your team mates were wiped out, target them for arty. Then, once you target them, immediately drop a supply crate into the center of the arty zone. The enemies will move to it to get resupplied, and then WHAMMO!
The tip works both ways though. I've noticed a couple of commanders doing this. So, if you're sitting at a flag or something with no enemies around and you see a supply crate coming down on top of you, but you never heard the "supplies at your area" call from your commander, MOVE AWAY FROM THE CRATE! Arty will be coming in very shortly!
Advanced planning and patterns of play, play a big part in learning how to be a commander and playing alot you gather these patterns of play, now this works only on certain maps but with regular commanding you tend to pick up peoples favorite moves.
It used to be on the demo the US guys would spawn far left and take a light transport buggy and head straight for the hotel, I would set up C4 and take em out straight away. Same thing happens on certain maps where people make predictable moves so you can advance plan against it.Comment

i only punish the commander for arty if he is a retard for doing it.
ie. no enemy around
But more often than not I'm pretty forgiving for TK's just wish everyone else was :/Comment

As the commander, how do you aknowledge the request?Originally posted by Relativity(Commander's get points for acknowledging and allowing the squad leader's requests), along with people using the supply crates and arty.
Is a simple page up/page down thing or is it more complicated?
The first time I commanded, the "voice over guy" told me to "click on accept to accept requests from squad leaders".
I cannot for the life of me find a button for accept and I don't want to do it wrong and recieve a mutiny vote

When you are in the squad mode (capslock) and a request comes up, there is a yellow circle, right click accept/deny will pop up ... just click accept and you will automatically aknowledge the SL's request if available.Comment

When a squad leader requests supplies, arty, or UAV a yellow icon will appear on your command screen. Click the icon and 'accept/reject' buttons will appear.Comment

When a squad leader requests arty/supplies whatever...right clicking on the map where they requested it and hitting accept will automatically call arty/drop supplies and say "Acknowledged" to the squad leader. This will net you commander points.
Just make sure those squads start requesting things...it makes it a WHOLE lot easier.Comment

Re: Good squad commander..
I thought the warning is automatically, darn, next time I have to find the art warning command.I have used the "drop supplies in artillery zone" so much and its embarrasing that its incredibly effective.
The scan and then UAV is very effective for helping troops, but also spotting enemy troops during a scan can be beneficial as well.
I just wish we could get more people to join squads so they know when an artillery strike is coming in their area. Because, besides the large blinking artillery sign in the map, I send a warning to all squads in the area.
You mean even you send the arti first and then right away a supply crate, the crate will land a few seconds before the arti strike starts? Thats a great advice. That should get me a few more points.:)One of my favorite tips I've ever heard is this:

Re: Good squad commander..
I can only give one advice: COMMUNICATE
The commander's only goal is to guide the team to victory.
If you have teamspeak, use it. Zoom in on your map,
and tell your squads the enemy is in a building, on a roof etc etc.
Don't drop supplies when you want to, as 2 secs later another squad asks supplies, and you can't give them. As someone said earlier, give when they ask.
Be a strategic person. When a squad is moving, and there is no enemy in its line, put UAV in front of them, in stead of over them.
Tell your squads where to go. Example: If you play MEC in Karkand...
When US is capturing flags on the east side, don't send a squad to the west side to recapture flags, as US spawns there and will capture back at ALL times when the MEC squad heads away. Always work from your own base towards the enemy base.
Or in other events, don't hesitate to send a squad to capture a flag, but hold another squad on a captured flag to defend it. If you're not playing with noobs, they will know you mean that the enemy is coming in.
Of course you have to have squads that listen, ask and communicate.
And finally, all of the above won't give you many points, but a quick win and still probably a (golden) medal.Comment

Re: Good squad commander..
If you need a large squad to accept an order, right click on their name and click on rebuke a gazillion times. Just make sure an admin isnt in that squad
. If they still don't do it chase them with arty if u dont need to use it.
