    Okay, YOU ARE A MORON!!!!!!!

the models he is selling are not for use in a game, there too high in poly count. There only use is for animation, CG, that kind of thing.

the "low quality" free models are models that have been simplified from the higher poly models so that they can be used in the game.

"there's no need to spend your money on this"

thats because YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THE GAME MODELS!!

i dont have a beef with him also posting a link to higher models he worked on that he is selling, it just gets him exposure in the high quality market.

Heh you guys are funny. Just because a model has 10 million polygons doesn't mean that it is better than a model with fewer polygons. Also I am not saying that it is wierd that this one guy is selling his model, I am saying that it is wierd how so many people sell models. But hey if it gets them money then maybe I should start trying it out.

Well in that case, why does Dice and EA sell Battlefield? Or any game for that matter.

You guys dogging Jonas for selling his 3D artwork are retards. Plain and simple.

And yes, a model with 180,000 polygons will render a far better looking output than a model with ~5,000. Yes, you too are a retard.

There is a good market for quality models. Look at it this way. He spent two weeks working on it. Say someone "better" (not a dig, Jonas, just hypothesizing) could make it in a week... five business/working days... 3 hours per day... so 15 hours. You really think a quality artist is going to work for $1/hour? Get real.

It's not uncommon for companies to outsource 3D requirements.

All of you monkey-a$$es need to just STFU, and go back to your cashier jobs, and minimum wage. At least Jonas is trying to make a living, or some money, doing something he likes doing.

And yeah, I'm f'n caustic today. Cry me a friggin' river.

          EDIT::

BTW, Jonas -- the high-poly model kicks ass, and is well worth the $15.

For one you can play a game with them... With models that you buy what can you do? Make a movie? Usually people that make movies will just hire a modeller. Also if they have the experience to animate such things there is a good chance that they can model as well.

And to you "SaintSinner" No, models with more polygons do not always look better than models with less polygons, obviously you don't know much about modelling. You can have a square made of thousands of polygons yet have the same square made with 2.

Dude, the low poly one is 63818 according to my 3dsm:

That's some insane wastage. By the way you said above that it's 6000, i'm assuming there's been some mistake and you uploaded the wrong version cause... this one couldnt be used in a game (and it's pretty ugly, to be honest).

I absolutely know where you're coming from though. I work on several mods myself, and it pisses me off when people dont appreciate the hard work we do. I dont mean to sound elitist, and i dont want people bowing at my feet, but when people treat you're work like **** when you're only doing it for the advancement of the community, it really feels like a kick in the teeth.

What he's done is, essentially, the equivalent to a band releasing a new album, and putting a few tracks on their website. Yeah, you CAN get free music elsewhere, so what?

One good thing has come from all this heated debate...

My free weapon at file front has been downloaded dozens of times...

Without all the bickering, the thread would have died, and I might have been downloaded 5 or 6 times....LOL

Oh, shut the hell up. If it's "Square" it wouldn't be made with "thousands of polygons". It's a SQUARE, stupid. Anyone who'd model a square/block mesh with more than 8 vertices/6 polygons is a retard.

A complex object like a gun will always look better with a higher polygon count, fool.

Further -- I didn't say "look better" I said it will have a better output, i.e., render better.

As for me not knowing "modelling"... You're right, I don't know modelling. I do know a lot of creating meshes, though.

My god, SaintSinner, you're an idiot.

Sure, poly count is important, but it's how you use it that's important.

                      lol.. just caught this.

You tell me I don't know anything about modelling, and then talk about making a square with two polygons? lol. Try 1 polygon, with 4 vertices.

We're talking about making a MODEL. Not using the model in the game, dropping back polygons, etc.

If you're going to MODEL something, you have to MODEL every side of the object.

If you want a realistic looking object, poly count is more than "important". It's the key factor.

BTW... how am I an "idiot"? Please, explain...

                          Because you're wrong, SaintSinner.

Polycounts don't define quality. They increase the ballpark, allow the modeller to increase the quality, but they do not define it.

And in many circles, a polygon is another name for a face. It's only recently that "polygon" has meant simply a triangle, since until very recently all games rendered everything in tri's and not quads or above, so the entire idea of a polygon with more than 3 sides was totally redundant.

We're not talking about models for a GAME, jackass. The dispute arose about him selling his NON-GAME, high quality models. Poly's with more than 3 sides are only redundant/useless in low quality game models. Try and keep up.

Only a dumbass uses all tri's for non-game modeling. You, obviously, are a dumbass.

You model the whole face of the poly, regardless if it has 3 vertices or 30.

If you think that a model with 5,000 polygons will have the same level of detail that a model with 180,000 poly's has... well, you're just too damn ignorant to bother arguing with.

Doesn't matter how much they "increase the ballpark"... you drop off 175,000 polygons, it doesn't matter how good your texture artist is, because there's no damn way he can 'fake' that much detail geometry with any kind of mapping... especially on closer up shots.

Yet, I'm the one who's "wrong" and an "idiot".

                            Riiiiight.

You still haven't specified how I'm "wrong".

You are wrong because a model with a lot of polygons can look the same as a model with a lower amount of polygons if modeled correctly. SaintSinner... The square was an example of how you can waste a lot of polygons to achieve the same effect. Also I completely forgot that max's polygon counter counts triangles not polygons, my bad, but still the square thing gets my point across.

By the way jonasnz1, has anyone bought one yet? I am interested to find out. There really is no point in complaining about people selling models since it will never change. I was looking around the site and I saw one weapon alone cost $500! It (the $500 model) is a decent model and skin, but I have seen much better on Counter-strike sites. Also by model collectors do you mean they just buy them and look at them? Sounds pretty funny to me.
