Gunners for choppers, but none for tanks?

I feel that the pilot/gunner increases teamwork in a game because they have to work together to achieve the best out of their chopper. I some times run into gunners that can't shoot a TV missile even when you're hovering right by a tank, and they just knock you down while the noob gunner stares at him. Other times you get a really skillful gunner and can do so much damage to the other team. You basically depend on people.

Why did DICE not do this for a tank? The tank only requires one person to control and gun. If it was 2 people required, it would take more teamwork, and if a team doesn't have teamwork, then their tanks will be useless.

I just hate seeing one person in a tank taking all the kills, he's basically just a soldier that put on a bunch of bullet proof armor on and has a sabot launcher.. oh and is on wheels :|: .

If it was 2 people in a tank they would have to work for their kills. This would decrease the tanks dominating over soldiers if the tank crew is horrible.

Oh and plus the AT class would be rewarded with one 2 kills, instead of 1 :)

I liked how it was in Operation Flashpoint, were a tank crew consisted of 3 people, a tank commander, gunner, and driver.

I would be playing OFP if the graphics were as good as BF2... but they're not and OFP2 and Armed Assualt won't have better graphics either

I hope you understood what I said.

Do a search for topics where we've asked that the gunner for the tank not also be the driver. That would automatically make for 2 guys in the tank to make it of any use.

Couple problems with this. First of all, in your scenario only the gunner would be able to shoot. However, in the pilot/gunner scenario both of them are able to shoot. Second, two people are not required when flying, as your post seems to suggest. Lastly, the tank DOES have a second seat, and you can shoot from it, and it promotes teamwork, if used correctly.

realsim mods usually take care of that. but the problem is, your not always gonna have a teammate helping you out in the tank. also, noone would want to drive the tank. your not gonna get kills driving a tank around while you have your teammates blow them up. youll get driver assists though

first, dice didnt do this for tanks because it would turn a lot of people off. vehicles are first and foremost designed to be used by one player. the heli is just on the farthest end of this standard, gaining as much as it does from a second player.

but i agree. i would like to see a mod that focuses on making teamwork more important by splitting up tasks in vehicles and making lone wolfing, in vehicles or otherwise, less attractive and less effective. separate gunner/driver positions will help a lot with this.

i also think it will make tank kills seems less 'noob,' as it takes skill, teamwork, and coordination to be effective as a gunner/driver combination.

You don't usually blow things up in a chopper being as pilot, if you're a good pilot, u wll usually fly for the gunner.

Same with the blackhawk, people still fly it even though they don't get the kills, their gunners rack up alot of kills.

the second gunner in a tank helps keep those suicidal spec ops from suicide bombing the tank, it helps alot

HAve you ever played Operation Flashpoint? Cause I was talking about something like that. If you read my post better, you would know I wasn't talking about the secondary machine gunner a postion

I don't see a problem with the amour at all at the moment the way it is. It's all too easy to turn it into a coffin on wheels with mines, Anti-Tankers, C4, TOW, and airborne attacks. You just have to learn how to either kill it or if you haven't got the right equipment at the time, spot it, hide and wait for somebody who has.

However, that being said, a turrent gunner manning the .50 cal is often really needed, especially when you're in tight infantry based maps such as Karkand and Sharqi.

who remembers tribes where it took like 8 people to get a bomber to actually work well. and how annoying it was spamming chat getting 8 guys to get into ur bomber....im happy with this current system.

I understood your post clearly. My comment on the gunner position was an offhand remark, and was not too be taken seriously. However, your post was mostly geared towards using teamwork, and that second seat in the tank does promote teamwork. If that comment came across as a significant item then I am sorry.

No, if you are a good pilot you will fly for both yourself AND the gunner. I don't know about you, but I blow up quite a bit of stuff as pilot while allowing my gunner to do his thing at the same time. Granted, this takes practice, and voice chat makes it easier, but then again if it didn't than it wouldn't be a quality of a good pilot now would it?

It doesn't matter what you meant about the turret gunner position.

1)Using the tank would suck if it required two people.

                          2) I wish I could operate the Cobra WITHOUT a gunner if I could attach a second mouse to my toe or something to operate that gatling gun, that would rule

                          3) They fixed the turret Fifty so it doesn't swivel with the turret and you can duck in it offering partial protection. Anybody with half-decent nunchuck skills can totally rockout up there now.

This has been discussed before. I'm one of those who wants to see the tank and apc drivers to be separate from the main gunner spot, like the Humvees, etc. are. Drivers should get "driver assisted kill" points for gunners' kills and full points for anyone they mow down (gunner getting an "assisted kill" then). It works in games such as Planetside where all but the Magrider have no guns for the tank driver. The complaint in PS is that there are too many Magriders who go "lone wolf" instead of waiting for a gunner. With other 2-3 person tanks it isn't a problem to get gunners. Instead, as mentioned, it is tough to coordinate unless in the same squad (VOIP) or outfit (Teamspeak or Ventrillo).

the tank is fine..the secondary gunner is needed to help keep away spec ops with their c4 and other things such as this..no one is gonna want to drive around a tank and not get kills..i wouldnt want to at least..lets just leave the tank alone..its really easy to get killed as it is in one
