HAHAHAH its like a guy that wasted thousands on his outdated Pinto to make it 4 Wheel Drive just to try to go off roading in the Sierra Mountains. Yes it helped maybe but you're still not going over that speed bump
finally someone not spouting an opinion and using something other than website's benchmarks to back their argument
So someone tells you what you want to hear, and automatically its not an opinion anymore? Good logic!
Since when are benchmarks not real facts? Could you refresh my memory, i can't seem to remember.

Yikes! I just read thru all this and all the bashing. I just cant understand why someone needs to berate a guy who's just asking for your help. Not all of us are tech heads.
You could not have read through the whole thread and came out with that conclusion. If you can't see that he is calling everyone retarded because he knows hes wrong, then i'm sorry.
thats a "HUGE IMPROVEMENT" to me, considering anti aliasing is something bf2 needs to look good with all the jagged edges
retard
And you think going from a 9800 PRO 128MB to a 9800 PRO 256MB will do that and do it to the level of perfection you seeemingly expect? If it works and you're happy with spending that money then great good for you. Well done. Clap Clap.
Just remember YOU were the one asking for help. YOU were the one who came here asking questions. YOU are the one judging by those actions who is lacking in knowledge. You wanted an answer you got one. Because it wasn't what you wanted to hear you spat your dummy out. How old are you 12?
I'll remind you of your main original point shall I. You seem to have forgotten.
"am i reasonable when i expect to be able to 4x AA on medium settings without slowdown now that i'll have 256mb of video ram?"
Well the answer is no not really. Simple as that. You wanted to hear yes. You didn't. It's been explained why over and over.
Just about anyone here could have told you either a X700 or a 6600GT would have been a much better buy and probably wouldn't have cost much more. You would have got exactly what you wanted and a lot more to boot. It would also have lasted you much longer before you need to upgrade again.
It's quite clear who the retard is. Now scuttle off back under your bridge you pathetic troll. Can somebody please lock this waste of space of a thread now.
I got a radeon 9800 pro 256 mb and i stutter like crazy. I stutter so bad i cant play this game, when i use Alt-fire it stutters badly and i cant play the game because of it and also i see other people skipping all over the place in the beggining of a round.
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.00 GB 2.00 GHz
ATI 9800 Radeon Pro 256 MB DDR
Latest catalyst and omega drivers.
i have a 9800pro 256mb softmodded to XT and i run everything on high except textures on medium and 2xAA. i get about 30-45 fps avg. hope that helps. if you have anymore questions just pm me.
Versus what you COULD have had......well then, have fun running the game lower then the rest. Oh yah, and you're welcome for the advice doink-wad. Benchmarks are given for a reason, they allow you to compare cards in a real-life environment. Sorry but I agree with most of the rest of the people here, you're an ass. You ask for an opinion and when we tell you that it was dumb (which I still hold) you go off like you know what the hell you're talking about. I've been building computers for 6-7 years now, I have 3 in my home that I built and all of them are rock solid, and the same holds true with a lot of other members. So next time you want advice just say "hey tell me I'm right or leave me alone" because that is what you seemed to have wanted to hear.

p4 2.8
1 gig of ddr
7200 rpm 40 gig HD
128mb 9800 pro
i run medium, 0x aa, shadows off
definantly no problem running it, no slowdowns, great FPS.. but i like smooth edges :P
turning on AA would cripple my performance looking certain directions, usually heavily lighted areas such as the group of little houses on oman, but man did it look so crisp & the colors so much more vibrant.. the smoke that comes off your tires when you're driving around.. wow.. the trees, the explosions, helicopters flying overhead.. everything, looks so much much better
i realize its a lack of video ram as i could put texture settings to low, and there was no slow down, but it looked like sh*t :-P
so, i purchased a 256mb 9800 pro last night, and sold my 128mb 9800 pro
am i reasonable when i expect to be able to 4x AA on medium settings without slowdown now that i'll have 256mb of video ram?
You will only see minor improvements.
More memory on your video card only create's a larger cache for textures, it has nothing to do with system performance.
If you want stability and the ability to play with maximum settings then you need to be looking at upgrading your system memory not your gpu.
My lowest end system has a 9800/128 2gig of ram and I run everything on ultra high with 6aa X 16af and see around 60-80fps.
1024x768 4x AA 2x AF
high geometry
everything else medium
looks amazing, no slow down whatsoever, and everyone here can suck it
p.s. doom3 high settings, 60 fps no slowdown
cs:s everything maxed, 4x AA 8x AF, 100 fps without a hitch
was this worth the 90 dollars i spent? was this a huge upgrade ?
YES
is everyone here (chopperkill) trying to tell me their opinion on why i should of bought a new aged nvidia card a retard?
YES
Firstly why single me out. Nearly everyone has told you the same thing. How many times do I have to say it. I couldn't give a damn who makes what card. It's ONLY about what's best for the money at the time. I had a 9800 PRO right up until 3 weeks ago ffs and I had it for 18 months and it WAS a great card especially 12 months ago but it's starting to show it's age now and in 6 months it will be very slow. And when Unreal Engine 3 games come out in early 2006 it will be next to useless. So congratulations on upgrading to a card that will be good for less than a year.
I got a 6800GT because the prices have dropped since the 7800 came out making it the best card to buy right now for the money along with the 6600GT for the slightly lower end. And at least it's a proper upgrade as I'm running at 1280x1024 with ultra settings and 4xAA and 16xAF.
Oh and I think you made 1 post too many. 60FPS Doom 3 High settings from a 9800 PRO. Congratulations you're now a retard AND a liar.
Why don't you just go away cyanide. When is it going to sink in that it no longer really matters anyway what you did or what you got. No one feels good for you because no one likes you which is why this is my last post in this thread and to you.
Shame you can't buy an upgrade for your personality isn't it f*cktard.
