The special forces L96A1 is by far the best sniper rifle, all the accuracy of the M24 with the speed of reloading of the M95.

The Type-88 (chinese sniper rifle) is an excellent rifle, very accurate scope, can be used at distance and i have taken guys out who have had PKM's with 3 rapid succesion shots at close range while they have been shooting at me.

Use the Type-88 almost exclusively in Dragon Valley!

The M95 is good in the right situation, i've shot guys in choppers through the glass. It's not hard with a bit of practice and a low ping rate. There's not much point shooting at them unless they are hovering or just taking off, all you'll do it give your position away.

        The SVD is actually pretty good;
        consider this:
a bolt action rifle one shot kills most of the time (say 80%?), but with the remaining 20%, they often get to 2 bars, and then they move
the SVD however, can shoot 10 times in a row, (albeit with lots of recoil) can kill SEVERAL people in one go and with 3 shots, you can take out anyone, leaving them no real time to escape (from prone to stand gives you enough time to kill em)
you just gotta know where to aim (esp with the crappy SVD scope) and u just gotta hope they dont move!

City maps, the auto sniper rifles are FAR superior. If you can't see that then you are totally missing it.

You have your M24, you fire one shot and get a kill. If I spend the time to line up the shot as well, I will get a kill as well. However, even if I just hit the guy, I can take two more decently aimed shots before you are even close to reloaded. Then you have to aim again because if you don't get a headshot, you are ****ed. . .i just take another shot.

On a city map, I can easily take out 2 people, plus get a couple of hits on other guys (kill assists) before you would have killed one, reloaded and set up your next shot.

I love the SVD, I think every 1 should review all the weapons all over again, since they all have been changed so much which each patch

            I hated the SAW, G36, P-90, M95, L85, & the SVD, now I love them all

            imho

              Re: Why is it

Each sniper rifle has its advantages. I dont complain about any of them, because they all are good at different things. I would choose the L96 over the M24, due to reload time, but the Semi-auto ability of the MEC and Chinese rifles makes up for the less damage they cause. Im always aiming for the head anyway, so if I miss once, Ill most likely kill them with the next shot anyways. The main purpose of a sniper is stealth, so giving away your position, or not moving after killing a guy or two means you are asking to be killed. Close range is still knife and pistol fun.

Ok... The M95 does not need to be one shot kill. that is so unneccessary, it'll become the new noobie favourite weapon. The whole point behind a GOOD sniper in the game is to make accurate shots. If you just spend a little time practicing with any of the sniper rifles eventually you'll work out whats what and reap the rewards. Sniper is by far my most played kit and I initially could'nt hit anything with the M95 compared to the M24 after unlocking the barrett. however with a bit of practice I was taking out chopper pilots and making some good shots. Personally I don't like the semi's but thats personnal preference.

                  Re: Why is it

Watched a TV show last night, they were shooting the M95 Barrett, and let me tell you...If the M95 in BF2 was anything like it is in real life, you'd all be dead.

Shoots through 1-2 inch thick steel with ease while at huge range.

I don't think this game was intended to be a sim.
