My computer is back to normal now

Works fine so far--except once in a while the servers just randomly boot me saying connection lost and then I just rejoin, don't lose stats...

new driver problems

I also just downloaded the newest omega drivers (uninstalled everything before hand) and I am having some serious issues. I had no problems with the old drivers, but now my system will randomly reset (comes up with system recovered for serious problem caused by driver) while playing the game. Also I now have randomly appearing black areas on the screen (not really sure how to describe it) Anyone else having these issues?

I will probably just go back to the old drivers (5.6). ( I have a 9800 pro)

FraidtoFight, if you haven't done it recently, take a look at your card. I mean actually pull it out and inspect it. I have a 9800XT, and would have rare good days and frequent horrors. Found out that dust had clogged the copper, and it was way too hot. It produced a lot of heat new, also. Anyway, got a Zalmann VGA cooler and all is good. The Omegas (5.6) also let me play at better quality with the same speed...

To those wondering about the shadows, ATI is aware of the problem, and since Omega Drivers are merely tweaks they won't fix this. The only fix I have found is turning AA on (if your card is powerful enough). I have mine on 6x AA and it looks correct. Even 4xAA is a step up, and I would imagine 2xAA does something but probably not a whole lot.

Looked at fan today, will probably replace. reverted back to old drivers. bf2 working fine again.

Try 5.6 I had no issues with them, but I re-formated and am now using 5.7 without any problems. Aslo, if you use onboard sound that could be cause of the stuttering.

Have you tried clearing your cache files? Delete the files under C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache and shaders will be re-optimized next time you join a server, might help. Also check your audio settings - with AC'97 sound you'll probably need to use software rendering and turn off EAX...

Your driver is over a year old, so just using latest regular Catalyst and you see improvement.

The problem with that is that it's not always true...

Don't let the version number trick you, as a higher Catalyst version doesn't necessarily mean better performance.

I find that I get the best performance with the Catalyst 4.12's or 5.1's.

Yeah, the old fan isn't working to great. makes funny noises, stops randomly..lol. i can tell when its not working though, and usually with a reset it functions properly. Anyway a new fan for the card will definitely be my next purchase and il definitely take your recommendation into consideration.

lol, no but it might as well be with that Audio device. Not sure why mobo makers still use AC 97 sound as so many games have conflicts with them.

Although there is a board that is either out, or due out that has an Audigy2 chip onboard!
