Stingers: Useless or Underappreciated?

Stingers... love them or hate them... but what's the general consensus?

I think they are well balanced myself... They are neither uber nor completely nerfed. You will not shot down jets very often (unless the pilot is a complete idiot) but helicopters are easy prey unless the pilot is switched on...

On the other side of the coin in a aircraft if you get the warning signal and simply ignore it you will be shot down, but if you use your countermeasures effectively and are smart then you stand a very good chance of getting away...

Useless, they don't balance the jets at all, and are only really good at scarying Heli pilot's grandmothers.

The key with helicopters is to wait untill they are reasonable close, then lock them up and wait until they drop their flares and you reaquire them before firing... It is easy to take out the gunships like that, the transports are harder simply because they are tough and can take a lot of hits...

If anything I think there should be more of these around flags rather than making them stronger...

Two hits from a stinger will drop a blackhawk, unless the stinger just happens to hit in a really bad place

Thing is, if you're up against a competant helicopter pilot (say, not me) you will be blasted out of your seat before you can get your lock, either by a couple of the rockets, some nice hot lead care of the gunner, or a TV missile if he's really out for blood. If you catch someone from an odd angle when they're busy with another target, then you might get lucky if they stop to blow up the AA they THINK you are in, but usually they'll still flare/run and then continue killing your team from a safe distance.

Stingers suck. The only way to kill a jet is with another jet and even that is difficult if the pilot has any skill.

You are right about that... Nothing worse than getting a good lock on a enemy chopper just to see the missle veer wildly off course and go chasing a friendly who will not even get the curtesy of the warning signal... :cry:

Also as the game matures it is becoming harder. The good pilots know exactly where the sites are and know how to fly into attack position without revealing themselves. Like I said, you could do with a few more of them scattered around the map.

Like I said above, stingers don't worry me one bit, the other jets do.

I love stinger emplacements when I fly because I know it's an easy cannon kill.

Trying to shoot down another plane takes forever and a day.

I think they should have a bit better range/punch but should not be at every god damn outpost. Theres not a moment that goes by when you don't have a lock on you.

Underappreciated! I won't spend my life using them but it's always cool to jump in one while waiting for a plane to be available.

Good point. I know for a fact it drives me to the point where I will eject if I cant shake the guy off my ass.
