    Etiquette and baseraping.

Is there any particular etiquette to this particular situation. One team have all the flags, all that remains is the enemies base, who's flag can't be captured.
Are you supposed to hold off, at a distance, and fight anything that comes out of that base, or should you go in, all guns blazing and shoot everything in sight?
The reason I ask, is that I didnt know any better, and went into an enemy base and started shooting up the place. I didnt notice that my team's tanks, etc would sit on the hill overlooking the enemy base, waiting politely. A kick vote was started by the losing team because I was "baseraping", but the game ended before the vote was complete. Needless to say the opposing team lost the round.
I did go in the following round, and the opposing team got themselves into the same situation, so I held back this time, and sat on the hill near the base, just fighting what came out.
Is this a common thing? Do people just go into the last base, or hold back giving the enemy a chance to re-spawn safely? They are the enemy, after all.

Whichever is the more accepted thing to do? Does it change from server to server? I'll do the right thing, which ever it is.

    Cheers,
    harrier.

It definately changes from server to server. I have been kicked for doing it. The admin told me to stop camping and I said they only had one point left, there is not much to do other than just kill them, he said tough sh*t and kicked me. Personally, if you have all of the flags and they are down to their uncappable point, I say go in the base an kill. Its much easier to keep them from sneaking out and capping a point than just sitting back chillin. Also, it keeps them from getting any vehicles, which definately keeps them from coming back.

I agree, if they have lost all of the flags then I cant see much problem in attacking their base.

However if they have loads of troops in the field then they could argue you should be defending the flags you have.

      Its a tricky one.

Could just say you are going for UAV and have to kill everyone to stop them fixing it:)

just like in real life you should sit back and give the enemy a chance to recover. it is only fair. if you have better tactics and more organization you should be punished for that. stop being so good and let the other team kill you for a change.

also running into an enemy base where the whole team is constantly respawning puts you at an advantage because there is more of them. :P

If a team loses all their flags, i feel they deserve to be camped, and camped hard. HOWEVER, i dont do it. Its not fun for them, and its not fun for my teammates. I got team mates gaurding a flag. They dont get fights commng to them, cuz i got 10 guys camping the main. Eliminating the very nature of what this game is about. FLAGS. Its not fun for the team being camped either.
In my opinion, if you go and camp the uncaps, your looking for cheap, easy kills. Period. And more importantly your ruining the fun for them, and your very own team mates.
The game is about flags. Lets all fight the flags. In the end, i believe uncaps should be untouched, except by Plane bombing runs, guys taking out commander assests, and the occasional sniper. Other then, that........conquer and keep flags.

It is standard etiquette to leave un-cappable bases alone even if it is their last. If you do start dropping bombs on them you come across as a ***** not forgetting that most get annoyed and simply leave. Making the teams massively un-balanced.

That and in most servers it will earn you a kick/ban.

being on the receiving end of being base raped can be aggravating but what ya gonna do apart from try to sneak away and cap a flag. if they try to camp your base while you still have other flags, lets them. let them sit around wondering where everybody is while you're capping the rest of the map.

what really annoys me is that on many maps the US base cannot be effectively camped because its a ****ing aircraft carrier! if the mec of china gets its ass kicked it will be spawn killed for the rest of the game, but if the us gets pushed back they can just wait at their ship using the awesome gun emplacements for defence until they feel like fighting again.

If its allowed within the games framework (ie no software mods or hacks etc) it is allowed, if you people don't like it, don't play the game. I'm sick and tired from hearing of people on all FPS online games, going on about camping, base raping etc etc. The whole idea of these open world games is that you can do what you want.........it seems that power trip admins, whingers and awhiners think that "virtual" on-line war has politeness.

If this is the case then we shouldn't shoot medics, which I'm sure was a another thread...............

What next.............BF2 War Crimes Legal Team....ffs

Final word: It happens, and will continue to happen. Trying to apply an etiquette to everyone is a bit like placing rules on kills - useless and time consuming. Most admins will warn you and that in itself should let you know where it stands on that particular server. Personally? If you're red, you're dead, and i'm not going to follow a wildly skewed ROE just because you feel the need to run infront of my gun instead of adapting to the situation and getting the hell out of dodge. Some people find it lame. Eff 'em.

                        its all in the game.

saying something is in the game is not a freaking excuse.

Ok smarty pants, what does the "Game" simulate and if its not "virtual" what is it?

Yeah I'm well spoilt at 27 years old, I work programming CISCO switches and routers for the NHS, so what...I made my own luck and money, have that....

And no I don't moan if it happens to me becuase it can happen within the rules set by DICE in BF2, which I love and people adding their own rules by admin rights are just contrary. So I do think its fun to the last and the openness the games settings provide are there to be used. The same as inventive ways to use C4 are being implemented etc etc. Using the environment and tools available is not unfair.............

Honestly it wouldn't bother me, I would still carry on regardless if you have the energy and time to waste doing that then so be it. I don't care about stats, I play with what's provided in the game.

OK, make your own version then where base raping punishes you then, that'll work honestly, it'll be really cool..................
