In the last few days I have begun to play in a way that I find very satisfying and fun: Base Defense. On certain maps only, I form a squad called BASE DEFENSE. Every now and then someone will join my squad and we work together when enemy incursions are frequent, but most of the time it is just the commander and I at the main base.
I jump into a tank, APC, or AA and patrol the main base waiting for Spec Ops guys to come in. I lay mines in key positions and wait for the enemy. I repair all assets that are damaged. I am not the highest scoring person on my team, but I do get a lot of kills this way.
Commanders love me. When any of the commander’s assets is taken out, I immediately eliminate any enemy resistance and repair the damaged assets. Nearly every server I am on, the commander always types me a personal message thanking me for my actions. When an enemy does enter the main base, he will always spot them out for me giving me the element of surprise on 90% of all encounters.
This allows supply drops to be dropped on the front lines soldiers who need it, and it allows the commander to dedicate his time exclusively to commanding instead of running back and forth repairing everything.
There is nothing more satisfying than following a Spec Ops as he approaches the commander’s assets, and either 1. Knifing him in the back or 2. Mowing him down with my Jackhammer.
I don't get as many points as everyone else, but I know that my actions turn the tide of the battle. I enjoy playing this way. It is my way of helping out the team. I am egerly looking forward to the next patch, becasue Spec Ops guys will recieve points (as they should) for destroying the opposing teams assets. This means I will have even more encounters back at the main base.
So when you see an engineer (who is doing his job) thank him :) , it means a lot to know we are appreciated.

I have yet to unlock the jackhammer but the shotguns I think are the most satisfying weapon to kill with.
