I.e.- a medic who has no qualms about running into the line of enemy fire in order to heal or revive injured team mates. That's how you're 'supposed' to earn this medal naturally in the game. Of course, due to the way it was implemented, it doesn't always work out that way. However, the Purple Heart in this game is not always a 'noob' award. It can be a sign of someone who shows great team play at the support classes.
ahem like myself,Im always running around reviving people or throwing out medic packsComment

The Purple Heart. A medal that nobody really wants to get. To me if you
didn't earn a Purple Heart medal, keep up the good work. For you guys that got it on purpose, you shouldn't have. The Purple Heart is a medal you're not supposed to get. The Purple Heart is what seperates the good players from the bad players. If you don't have it, don't worry. You don't need it. You don't want it.
Nah I'm joking, but seriously...
I'm trying to avoid it.Comment

They probably can't, for the same reason that it is illegal for someone, whom it was not presented to, to actually wear a Purple Heart. It would be disrespectful and would demean the award. I'm sure if they were divvying out accurate, pixilated, representations of a real Purple Heart for something you did in a video game, they would (and deservedly so IMHO) get a bit of flak from veterans groups and what not.Originally posted by Stalker-NSDQOnly thing that bugs me is the star in the middle of it. There should be a Presidents head. If they make "REAL" awards, please...be at least specific.
The Purple Heart in BF2, technically, is not supposed to be THEE Purple Heart. Only actual veterans, wounded in battle can receive THEE Purple Heart. Technically, it's supposed to be a similar looking award that happens to share the same name.Comment

Huh? And u couldn't do the math? 1:4 = 5:20 = 6:24Originally posted by davespilI got it on my third try, its tough as hell to get killed 20 times in a game then get exactly 5 kills so you have the ratio. I accidently killed 6 the first two times but got it on my third try. Shame such an honorable medal in real life is a joke in this game
I think there are some good suggestions on this thread as to what this medal should be awarded for instead of how it is awarded now.
BTW there is (atleast 1) another medal or ribbon (can't look it up coz UBAR is down), a really nice one and difficult to get i guess, but one of the prerequisites for it was to have a death streak of X. Think it was 15 or something.
i just think it sucks that we know all these thing about the awards. It's not like anyone "goes for an award" in real life when their life is really threatened. "Hey guys. Mind if i take out that armada of tanks all by my self coz i really need that Basic A-T medal?"Comment

My Great Uncle had two Purple Hearts while he was fighting in Africa and Italy during WWII. He got the first one by being shot, and the second one by saving his crewmates when a Nazi loyalist threw a potato masher into his Sherman during a parade.
It is a big shame that the 1:4 ratio gets you the medal.Comment

Well I just played a round and decided to go for the purple heart. Man its hard to get that ratio. I didn't realise how hard it was to get someone to kill you when you want them to. I ran up behind this enemy spec ops and fired at the ground in front of him to get him to turn around but he never did. I spent a whole clip firing in front of him without getting him to turn around. Finally he was shooting at someone else so I just ran in front of him. He stopped firing! So I end up shooting him in the face getting me to 6 kills. Its funny when you want to die and it takes forever. Anyways I finally got it. The wierd thing about the purple heart is it says combat rating outstanding. How can having a 1:4 ration be outstanding?
