crash to desktop, please help me! I havent even played the game once!! Patched 2 1.02

This afternoon I bought Battlefield 2. I got home, installed the game and there you go, the game didnt work. When i clicked the bf2 icon it would show a black screen for about 3-5 seconds then crash back to the desktop. I downloaded the latest ATI Catalyst 5.7 drivers, NO DIFFERENCE. I downloaded the 1.02 patch, NO DIFFERENCE.

It actually sickens me that such poor support is provided for this brand new game, imagine how many people have the same problem as myself?

Can someone PLEASE help me out, this is ridiculous. My specs are as follows:

    AMD 64Bit 3200+ 939
    ATI X800XT Platinum Edition 256mb
    Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 Motherboard
    1GB DDR400 Ram
    ATI Catalyst 5.7 drivers
    Windows XP Professional with SP2

Thank you, maybe you can help me out so I can actually play the game ONCE !

Did you install 1.01 then 1.02??

Don't touch 1.01 it is evil. If you have, Uninstall, delete all bf2 folders and reinstall then install patch 1.02 not 1.01.

    Should work then.

i also had problems problems problems...can't solve them.
I was searching the net for a long time about 4 days i tryed everything.
Now i am playing it on my old computer the only difference is that this one doesn't have SP2 and the MOBO is different the rest is the same VC SC etc.....

I run the game perfectly on a
          Asus p4b533-e (4 * AGP)
          asus 6600 GT
audigy 2 (this one is also a trouble maker but finally works)
          pentium 2.4
          1 gig ram
          BF2 with 1.02 patch

Before i was using the Asus p4p800 MOBO (8*AGP only) this one sucks and i saw on the net that there are more guy with this MOBO having problems.
The only thing i can suggest and i also saw it on the net is to get rid off the SP2..........and try to set your agp to 4 instead of 8
Hope it works out for you mate.
I also think that EA is doing their job bad ,they should at least write something about these problems (just tell us that they are working on it ,orso)
People start called BF2 ...BFctd (crash to desktop)

          Good luck

Reformat if you can. If it still does not work it is your motherboard. Make sure you have directx9, drivers for gfx etc.

try un installing the game & deleting the folders.
updating you video & sound drivers & reboot
then install the game & reboot then go to evenbalance.com for the punkbuster update and run it as per instructions.
then install the patch and run it again , then play the game.
if you have any other problems after that you can bet it'll be on here somewhere ;-)

Are you running Norton or any other software that offers "real-time" protection?

I would disable it, especially any Internet worm protection.

I have had the CTD problem sometimes. It seems to happen to me randomly, without explination, usually right after a game is done loading. The game works 95% of the time for me, but when it doesnt it really pisses me off. As usual, EA has done little to explain what seems to be a common problem. BF2 has great potential, and i enjoy it, but it could be so much better if EA could get their siht together. FCUK YOU EA!

It doesnt even load with default windows drivers (after I uninstalled old cats I tested it)...

I'm having the same problem. Game was running fine until I applied the 1.02 patch. I even updated PB as per the other thread with no change.
I get the initial BF2 splash screen, screen then goes black for a few seconds, then back to desktop.
I see no reason to reformat, reinstall, etc. Reinstalling the game, then applying the patch puts me right back where I am now.
This is the worst execution of a game I've ever dealt with.

I have that crash to desktop problem too.

Many of the people having this problem use a P4P800 Motherboard like me. Will that trouble never end?
