    Commander Woes

I really like playing commander and I always take that spot when I can. I think everyone should play commander at least once or twice just to understand what is going on in the game. It will give you a better understanding of what the commander is doing when you are playing in a squad.

Last night I was playing commander on Kubra Dam on the USMC side. The enemy had just turned one of our flags neutral so I zoomed in and saw some good soft targets. I called in the artillery and settled in to watch the fun. Artillery starts dropping and I cleared out about 4 enemies. Then right when the artillery is about halfway done I see from my overhead view a blackhawk come slowly flying right into the path of the artillery and sure enough...BOOM! Four teamkills. Then I hold my breath for the inevitable...
You have been punished for a teamkill
You have been punished for a teamkill
You have been punished for a teamkill
You have been punished for a teamkill

I was so aggravated by that that I resigned from the commander spot and just played the rest of the round solo.

I also like to be commander if nobody else takes it. Get used to the punishes though. Nobody forgives. One of my teammates last night gave a guy **** for punishing me when all 3 squads held their distance when I dropped the arty, but this ashole goes barreling into the middle of it. Way to go Lone Wolf!

I see alot of commanders that roll the dice with Arty strikes. They see a big glob of red, but ignore the fact that a squad is heading that way to take them on.

I've also seen commanders call arty strikes on thier OWN spawn points because one guy is giving them fits (like a sniper or spec ops). Then he gets upset when people punish him!

      It always cuts both ways.

You're absolutely right. I'll let my guys know ahead of time if a loner is on a point that I'd like to hit. If he doesn't want it or doesn't respond I won't shell the point. I try my damndest to not TK and ask all the time. I also type out in all caps DON'T RUN INTO THE GIANT RED CIRCLE WITH THE CANNON IN THE MIDDLE. For those not in squads.

I think you get the warning "Artillery, your area!" even if you aren't in a squad. Part of the problem is that people play MEC or China without English voiceover and ignore the foreign voices...still, there's a giant flashing red circle on your HUD, and a good commander will usually call out that one is coming if friendlies are remotely close.

            Here's a thought:
            The Commander's Best Friend Award

-1000 Global Deaths by Friendly Artillery
-10 Deaths by Friendly Artillery in a round with no forgives

Ya, you do. If there is arty anywhere near you (from your team) you get the sound message, along with the pulsing red symbol on the map.

I play as commander a lot also, and have had this problem many many times.

I had the exact same situation as the first guy happen, except like this:

Two squads of 3-4 people ran as fast as they could to the arty area
The 7 enemies who were there ran away, seeing the two squads
The arty wipes out 6 of my guys, no enemies.......

punished for everyone, kicked out of server........

People are retarded and stupid, that's how i'll summarize it. It seems that practically no one understands that even if the red glowing circle is where they want to go, THEY CAN FREAKIN WAIT 10 SECONDS!

I try to artillery in areas away from my UAV. Then again I don't worry to much about TKing.

I've had a couple when the fighting has been really intense, I don't notice artillery warnings.

The same thing happens to me. When the fighting is intense I don't notice the warnings, but if I get killed by the arty strike, I know it's my fault not the commanders fault. So I usually forgive him.

                    Scenario 1:

                    *** Friendly

                    ***Enemy

                    XXX Arty Here

(Useful close combat arty support - it still gets a few and usually avoids any team kills) :)

Altho i would only do it if there were many more of their team there than mine

                    Scenario 2:

*** Enemy (spot these for your troops)

                    *** Friendly

                    *** Enemy

                    XXX (Arty here)

Deploy UAV to another squad if not needed here

If in doubt just dont use it and spot or deploy UAV

Also - you can instruct a squad to move back a little if you know theyll move and hit the enemy right where needed then - if they respect your commanding youll find they chat quite a lot to you

Also dont just sit on your arse - i tried being spec-op as commander and immediately took out the enemies UAV/ARTY capabilities whilst the squads were kicking ass in various sectors as instructed

(stupid game team switched me again 3 times so i ended up kickin my own arse again) - Commanders need to be exempt!!!

Most of my losses were from joining a losing team or the dumb team switch grrr

                    Nag number 2:

Higher rank does not really mean a better commander - this should be down to a commanders wins
