I think the K/D ration tells two stories. One is who involved you get in the heavy fighting and the other is how good you are in general at the game...

My K/D ratio only turned positive after about 1000 kills. I was not playing any different really, just better. Better use of cover, better use of weapons, staying with the squad etc. I was still getting stuck into the fighting where I could...

You need to look beyond this to the other stats to put it into context...

I think it depends on the situation. In most cases, a team player will spawn at a flag on the front lines and attempt to help his team capture the next flag, even if it hurts his kill:death ratio.

There are some people with very high kill:death ratios who do this. But most do the following:

        1) Purchase the most expensive computer equipment.
        2) Load the map before everyone else on their team.
        3) Freely pick the best aircraft/tank available.
        4) Run up a number of kills before being shot down / exploded
        5) Spawn at the main base and wait a few seconds for the same vehicle to respawn.
        6) Move out for awhile.
        7) Run up more kills before the vehicle is destroyed.
        8) Spawn at the rear base again, rinse, repeat.

These people ARE helping the team, of course. But it's easy to see why they draw so much resentment from their teammates. Since their death and the destruction of the best vehicle are simultaneous, it's only a few seconds until the vehicle respawns next to them. They and only they know exactly when and where that will be. They are rarely identified as "plane campers," since the plane will respawn next to them quickly.

Arguably, this is the most efficient use of the team's resources, since the plane will almost always be in use (it's picked up right after it spawns) and the pilot only spends a few seconds waiting for it. And you know that the equipment will never get stolen, and it will always be in the hands of a skilled pilot. But it bugs the other members of the team since that person is hogging the vehicle 100% of the time and always gets the point benefits.

Attack helo gunners should have good k/d rates, the pilots not soo much, unless the gunner kills count for them too. The rockets just aren't that effective vs. anything besides land vehicles and aircraft(hehehe).

If you have a good gunner, he is going to get most of the infantry kills, most of the enemy copter kills, and quite a few armor kills. As the pilot, I end up with the APC kills, the mobile AA kills, and the ummm, err, ramming kills. :-)

I've also noticed that you can have absolutely terrible copter rounds and not be able to do much about it. If the enemy has the better jet pilots and most of the stinger sites, you're going to get shot down regularly in the attack copters. When I play assault kit though, I always have a good game, regardless of what the enemy does.

i agree 100%. i have lost count of the number of times i've seen vehicles just sitting there at bases with no team member to claim them only to find later on that an enemy FAAV/boat has arrived there, captured the base and taken the tanks/apcs which should have been driven by my own team in the first place.

You're right about Karkand. But remember in Karkand the Armored guys own bigtime. I know I do. It's where I had my best round ever. The LAV's aren't too bad either.
