Thanks! But what's about your strategy tool? Have you finished it already? Is there an early release to play around with? I want to try it out :-)

Yeah, its going great. Early alpha stages for the moment. Maps will already load up, and you can already do some stuff in it.
You will get playing with it very soon :) (will send you a pm somewhere this week)

Re: [RELEASE] Yarin's BF2 Mesh Viewer (w/ SCREENSHOT)

I said I would try to update progress information on a regular basis, so here is what I'm doing right now:

The new mesh viewer doesn't require you to unzip the zip files, it will load the meshes directly from the zip files.

The problem was, that every zip library I could find out there takes hours to load these zip files (some of the zip files are really huge, Objects_client.zip of the bf2 mod weights ~650 MB!!). If you want you can try to open this file with a regular zip file viewer. All of which I know suffer from the same problem. 7-zip for example needs 15 seconds to load Objects_client.zip, which is way to long to allow you working with the mesh viewer fluently.

This is why I'm currently writing my own, high-speed zip library. It is nearly done now and very fast :) Takes about 0.1 second to load the whole Objects_client.zip!

p.s.: Loading = Reading in all file attributes, names, sizes etc. Not copying the whole 650 MB into RAM ;-)

p.p.s.: I'm investing all my spare time into the mesh viewer atm. I even haven't played the new patch 1.2 till now.

Yarin, save yourself the time of writing a zip library. All modders work from a un-packed zip anways, eg Objects_client.zip ... and usually in a different directory than BF2. Unpacking the zips is a must for other programs like photoshop and 3Ds Max (exporting meshes) etc.

Here, you need the lower link tool as well.

Except the last link to the 3DSMAX plugins is old...the newer one is http://rex3d.net/bf2/files/3dsmax/bf..._22Dec2005.zip

Another month later...I was wondering whether the gremlins had carried Yarin away...bound and gagged him and forced him to work on another project.

What happened to this? I need to import the left and right sides of the dam into 3ds Max...any thing else other then this viewer that might be able to do that??

You could try Professor Dred's Necessary Tools - there'll be a link in this forum somewhere, or try a google.

I apologize for bumping such an old thread, but does this tool no longer exist? I've had a rather hard time finding the tool. If anyone could assist, I'd highly appreciate it. Thanks!

It seems to be dead - just go with Professor Dred's Necessary Tools (try the BfEditor forum).
