    Kellogs + Ice:

You guys determined it was faulty RAM by using memtest? Testing each individual chip, finding a faulty one and replacing it?

On initial install did you run the 1.00 md5 check and what were the results?

Did you then patch by the normal .exe and the patch was successfull first time with everything updating properly in the patch log.txt? Also did you run the md5 check on 1.02 and what were the results?

I have 4 x 256mb RAM so before i spend ages testing each chip id appreciate your input :)

Japp! First I tested both: Errors! Then I took one out: Errors! Took it back in and took the other one out: Everything fine! On this way, I knew, which one was faulty.

First of all: I had no MD5-Errors while installing! Then I checked with MD5-Summer: everything green! :)

I took the normal patch from EA and it went through the files like a knive cuts through warm butter - no probs patching on the first run! I MD-checked after that and still everything was green again!

Hirogen - I just took out the new additional ram that i put in my machine because my system was pretty good prior to putting it in and sure enough first go Ojects_Client.zip passed sum check. I didnt therefore use mem check. I no its a pain in the ass its probably worth doing to find which of the 4 chips is giving you problems. Good luck - I'm off to try and fix my random CTD now got to love this buggy farken game. :|: :|:

          Hi all
Sorry but I have had a water cool problem that needed parts.
This is from Gunny in a pm a week ago sorry it's way late (I hope he wont mind).

Hi, I just looked through the thread, wow lengthy..

As far as I can tell the problem could happen for some because it doesn't patch properly and some files are skipped, but only mentions this in the patchlog.txt so ppl don't notice.

Also something I pondered, perhaps ppl having used the patch where they extract it to the BF2 dir will get the error.
In some games e.g. PB will check if there are any files in root game dir that shouldn't be there or have wrong md5 hash and thus kick you, maybe the game itself has similar check and will detect it, and could explain why it isn't a PB kick.

It is hard to tell in the thread if all are having the error because of faulty patching or other problems.

Looking in the patchlog.txt and verfying that no critical files have been skipped would be my first check, then if I had used patch that was extracted to BF2 dir and run from there, I would remove it afterwards, so it doesn't cause any conflicts or similar.

I replied here in private topic instead of thread, seeing you have been following thread, and I might have misunderstood or missed something while reading the thread.

As kelloggs says............ twist ya bros arm for that ram!

From looking at the latest intel from you all, I have to say that it's the RAM, that when the information from the CD/DVD is being first transferred to Hard Drive, some of that program data, is held in RAM, until required to be used / placed in the appropriate file, in the hard drive for this BF2 issue.
If the RAM that you have installed in your PC is not appropriate for your MoBo or more appropriate for this problem, "matched sticks" (I have up to now no knowledge of a manufacturer that has matched 4 sticks of RAM) then an imbalance can occur and data (parts of a program) when transferred from RAM to the appropriate hardware can become corrupted or lost when finally the RAM transfers information to the appropriate place for the programme to work allegedly properly. (is that as clear as mud)?

Fixed or not fixed? yes or no plz.!

Anyone still not got a fix?

I havent tested my RAM yet because my game is playable 90% of the time so im not touching my current install. But when 1.03 is due i plan to remove all memory except 1 x 256mb and re-install because im gonna get the same nightmare all over again with 1.03. Then im gonna put all my RAM back in. My system + all other appz are running fine with my current memory and if i was gonna replace RAM i would get two 1 gig sticks anyway.

I still get the 'insane memory' + 'Unmodified Content' errors now and again, i always thought the two problems were connected. Im hoping that an installation + patch to current version on one RAM chip, then putting all my RAM back in will fix it without having to replace the chips. I might even test each chip just to find out if any are bad coz the one i leave in to install might be the corrupt one :hmm:

This thread is too long for a noob, just read 8 pages

I have just bought the game and installed on brand new 3Ghz p4 XP SP2 fully updated. The version of the game is 1.0.2442.0, I have not touched any of the files and it is a legit copy.

I have checked for patches and as far as I can work out this is the latest version as the only pathches I have seen are 1.01 and 1.02

First server I tried, I got the modified content issue, further attempts had the same results, I get the error immediately, not logging in at all.

Is the PB patch included in the version I have or do I have to download it? man I miss steam!!

One thought, I have MS AntiSpyware app installed. Could this have allowed/not allowed a file change on install?

              Any ideas welcome. TIA

You need to read this entire thread and search for others like it as there are many. This error is not a Punk Buster related error, and there are no solutions to this problem as it is different for everyone and not confined to a working, fully patched version.

I have now managed to stop the "modified content" problem on my setup.
I was only getting the error when online during map change or when joing some servers. Singleplayer was OK.

                      Here is what I did:

Uninstalled BF2, but kept my profile intact, and did not delete the cache or any registry keys.

Booted Windows XP Pro (SP2) into safe mode.

Installed BF2 into the default path, which in my case is "J:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2"
My J: partition is a SATA drive that I relocated "Program Files" onto a long time ago.

I did not install Gamespy-Arcade, but did let the DirectX update run.

                      Did NOT reboot when asked.

Ran the patch 1.02 using the manual method mentioned previously in this thread. It worked with zero errors.

Made the whole BF2 folder read-only, apart from the PB folder.

                      I deleted the intro movies.

                      Rebooted into normal mode.

                      Ran the PBWEB update.

                      Started the game.

Have played online for about 12 hours now with many map changes on lots of different servers, and no errors.

This is the first time I have tried this install method, and I installed from a generic DVD drive, and not the Samsung drive "TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B" that I had been using before.

I am using my original DDR 3200 memory, x2 512 chips, at 400mhz

CPU is an AMD64 3200 on an ASUS K8N motherboard.

Graphics card is Nvidia 6800GT, using 77.72_win2kxp_english_whql driver.

I hope this can be of use to some of you.

I am very pleased that this game is now trouble free for me, my wife is not so impressed, because I am playing BF2 much more now.

                            got md5

So I do the following -

                            - I do the patch (what is the manual method? I get no obvious errors)

                            - Use md5 to see what is corrupted

                            - Replace the dodgy files from a different PC.

If I post a list here would somone e-mail me the files?

there are only about 100 servers still unpatched and they are either empty or full.
                            Thanks

Do the MD5 test first m8 and tell us the results in as full a report as you can.
