            Re: ATI Users

ATI Radeon X1800 GTO (256mb X16) with Catalyst 6.8 here.

No crashes to desktop (I have 2GB of RAM, maybe that's helping). I run the game at full quality.

Shadows are pretty ugly, I must admit. Also, I've got a few other minor (but seriously irritating) graphical errors that may or may not be related to my hardware+driver setup.

            I made a thread about it: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96746

^ Have you tried deleting your bf2 cache in c:...\my documents ?

Sometimes the graphics settings stick until you dump the cache, which will force bf2 to optimize shaders, etc. again.

I crash to DT after playing for about 10-15 mins online. Disable firewalls, running minimal in the task manager turned hardware accel down, sound accel down, min gfx and still crashing. Anyone got any more ideas/tips or a solution. Would be much appreciated.

This is driver issue. You did not uninstall/install the drivers properly. This is the problem.

Try uninstalling cat 6.8 and all ATI software, then install cat 6.9 which has come out a few hours ago. IM hoping this helps me with my problem.

                            Re: ATI Users

This is to install Catalyst, Forceware, and any 3rd Party Video Drivers
                            1. Uninstall video drivers and control Panel/CCC.
                            2. If you have Crap Cleaner run it and scan for issues and fix those issues (Crap Cleaner fixes the issues).
                            3. Roboot to Safe mode.
                            4. Run the Driver Cleaner Pro and the tool Cab Cleaner that is in the Driver Cleaner Pro. For ATI cards, when running the Driver Cleaner clean everything except the ATI IGP.
                            5. Boot your system back to the desktop.
                            6. Now windows will tell you that there are some hardware found and would want to run a check on drivers. Windows is a plug & play Operating System so every time you add a new device it will give you a new hardware found prompt. To prevent this you must remove the hardware or let windows try to find the driver if you try to cancel it, it will just show up on the next boot so try to install it even if you don't have the drivers windows will just put it on your system without a driver. It won't hurt your system and you won't get the NEW HARDWARE FOUND PROMPT AGAIN. ** Simple Talk: So just let windows find the driver. Once it does that it will tell you no drivers found (that is what you want). Make are sure to check the box to where you do not want the prompt to show up on your next reboot. This will happen every time you uninstall old drivers.
                            7. Install whatever video drivers you want. If you are having problems make sure to install the most updated WDM Drivers.
                            8. Reboot system
                            9. Run your Crap Cleaner and scan for issues. Fix the issues again. Then reboot again.
                            10. Defrag your system.

If you are using modded drivers and want to go back to using the Catalyst Drivers/Forceware Drivers just follow the instructions above.

                            DriverCleaner
                            Crap Cleaner

I followed the instructions on their website, will have to see what happens.

And I still get the same damn problem, have emailed EA games to see if they can offer any advice.

My specs are in my sig...just installed the cat 6.9 drvrs. Last time I had major vid probs, shortly after BF2 hit the streets, I just bit the bullit and completely re-inst my OS from the ground up, making sure all Bios, system drivers, inf etc files were completely up to date and then running ALL MS XP OS updates, THEN installing Norton AV06 and then FINALLY installing BF2 using original CD's and then applying Full patches. Since then absolutely ZERO crash probs just periodic disconnects due to my CRAPPY ISP.

BTW - I started with a XT850 and then upgraded to the X1800XT couple of months ago, best move ever...
