    Re: ATI Users

ATI x850XT 256 mb PCIe, Cat drivers 5.8 CCC version, and my system would lock up hard if I start a game, or connect to a server, then hit ESC to go to menu's. Tried many different tricks, reformat/reinstall of everything, still no help. Got tech support from ATI, they gave me some things to look at no help. On a whim, I installed the Omega drivers, based on Cat 5.8, and so far, no lockups.

Ok, well I have this same card and I keep losing signal completely from my vid card. The light on the moniter goes from green to yellow, and my comp just freezes. I figured it was a problem with my system being over loaded, and I got some more ram so now i've got a gig's worth.

I'm not sure if this problem is with my vid card or my comp. It just locks up when I'm in game and stops sending a signal completely to the mon.

      i got an amd 3200+

            Re: ATI Users

I'm using NGO optimized CAT 5.8 drivers on my X800XT. I have a few graphic bugs and some textures missing like I did with the standard 5.8. BF2 crashes to desktop sometimes but not often. Running with terrain high, the rest on medium, texture filtering high, no AA and resolution is 1280x960 @85Hz. My FPS is usually in the 70 - 99 range.

Get to know your PC how it works in-depth.
Make sure that all the parts are matched (eg. the correct kind of RAM for your MoBo) motherboard) with the part you are going to fit it too.
Check that your BIOS is up to date.
Alter and "optimise" your BIOS to your pc hardware specs http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=9
              Partition your HD.
Keep your OS operating system (windows ETC) in one part your user programs like word, Adobe TS ati cat controller in another partition, games + videos, music in another and a mirror image of the drive you have your OS in another by using a program like "Ghost" in case your windows goes tits up.
Use all of windows update tool.
Always put installations into new renamed files.
Keep your pc HD "clean" (Ad-Aware SE Personal, AVG Free).
Use regularly Disk Cleanup + Defragment HD after installation of programs.
Check and fix your registry (TuneUp Utilities 2004, RegistryFix).
Keep "all" your drivers up to date check the manufacturers web site periodically and use there "firmware" or DriverMagic.
Go through all your "drivers" clean them up use a tool like Driver Cleaner Pro.
Use a RAM optimising tool like TuneUp Utilities 2004.
Keep an eye on heat of Vid card and CPU.

              "THEN" and "ONLY THEN"

"IF", you get an issue with a particular program like say BF2 and you have done all the above, then go to the programs support forum with the safe knowledge that "so far" you have done all you can to prevent any problems from arising (to save you backtracking fixes) and can look in-depth at the program that is causing you issues.

BTW Don't go blaming a program for not working because you haven't set up your PC correctly.

DON'T LISTEN TO "BS", DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH & MAKE, YOUR OWN, INFORMED DECISION.

              Have i missed anything?

                      Re: ATI Users

I'm on an ATI X850 XT PE running 5.8's. No problems now but i did with AA and performance for a while. I changed the settings to no AA as it didnt make any difference graphically from 4x! Then i switched back to 4x, it 're-optimised' and now the game runs real smooth and the gfx are as they should be!!

So for anyone having simular issues with AA and performance, go in and change/save new settings and it may just sort out your performance issues...

                      Abit AN8 Ultra
                      Corsair XMS 3200 C2 Pro (2x512)
                      Audigy 2 ZS
                      Sapphire X850 XT PE 256mb (PCI-E)

                          Hi,
I am a relative newby to this game.
I run a X800PRO 256MB graphics card and over the week end had a blue screen crash with stuttering sound........
Now i am unable to join a mission, everything loads up ok but when i hit the 'join' button that is as far as i can go. The curser does not move and i am unable to any thing, all i can do is ctrl/alt/del to escape...........
                          Any help is greatly apreciated.
I have H/L 2 and that runs ok.

                          Steve.

I know this is a farily old thread but time after time i read about more ctd's.
People seem to think if they throw more ram or more bigger graphics cards it will fix it up. BF2 is a computer intensive game, most problems can be trying to do much at the same time. There are speed bottlenecks all over the computer.

Learn how to shut down the processes shutting off virus scanner wont hurt while playing the game, reboot before a game, hit the cntrl alt del and start closing some processess off, if it has been long time since you have formatted the hard drive think about doing that.

most errors are not hardware in nature if you want to check to make sure ,run a benchmark program, do a stress test. not all problems can be solved by throwing money at it
