"Safeguards?" Not sure what you mean exactly, but there are some exploit fixes. For anything more dramatic, you have to rely on Punkbuster, Punksbusted, and good admins.

^What he said. Patches are created to fix game balance/exploits, PB is here to catch Hackers and Admins are there to stop Stat-Padders/Asshats. So, to have a good fair game you need a nice combination of the three :p

Personally I'd love to even be able to try Beta 3. Beta 2 worked fine, but 3 freezes my entire system (i.e. have to hard reboot) partway into the install every single time. Tried it from other sources, tried it with fresh 2142 installs, tried it with Beta 2, 1.25, whatever. Happens every time. Never had any trouble with any previous beta or regular patches.

Patch is working fine for me now. Connection issue seems to have been resolved so don't know if that was just my system. Only the kit saves is borked, seems to have some default loadouts that it sticks with. Example Engineers start with Pilum, PDS and Motion mines by default for me. Support starts with HMG, Shield and IDS1 on mine but I never carry that kit.

Where I am, I never see a patch server with better than 130-150 ping, which gets annoying. First two, I guess they had more servers running or something. I wish I knew what they've been doing to try and fix the stability issues. For it to take this long it must have been really tricky. (I try give our friends at DICE the benefit of the doubt, and assume "tricky problem" rather than "coding by drunk monkeys.")

(Although, not to be snide, but it they spend as much effort programming as their "community relations" guy does keeping us in the loop, the drunk monkeys might be an improvement.)

(Note, that that's the *first* negative thing I've had to say about DICE here in a year+, which ought to tell you something about how lame they are being about keeping us at all in the loop, when even the DICE-lovers are just sick and tired of being treated like a mushroom. :wall:)

            EDITED TO ADD:
For anyone who doesn't know how mushrooms are grown: "Kept it the dark and fed $h1t." See also, "Mushroom School of Management" i.e., how crappy bosses treat their employees.
