Let's not forget the most important aspect of infantry combat in BF2 - the unpassable claymores. They're what turned SF into soggy crap in a knapsack. In BF2142 you can bypass the APMs by crouching or proning, they can be destroyed by other explosives and the Zeller, but in BF2 the only way to get past them is to set them off and hope someone else rezzes you, and on Iron Gator (SF map) that doesn't even work. Forget any map with close-quarters, indoor-fighting like Warlord and Leviathan - gheymore city. Plus the detection and kill radius of them is as large (or larger) than the original APMs in BF2142. Claymores alone make me want to stop playing that game, but insta-prone accuracy and people rolling around all over the battlefield even when they're just 5 feet away from you borders on the ridiculous. Still a fun game, though, despite its (many) shortcomings as everyone else has said the maps are asthetically much more appealing than those of BF2142, but if you're an infantryman at heart, BF2142 is really the better choice for you.
