So should I try BF2?

I've been playing 2142 for about 2 months now, not saying that it's get boring, I hear people saying BF2 is a good game. I'm not sure if I should buy it.

2142 has kinda been getting on my nerves for one reason : Voss. Everyone uses it. It becomes boring when almost everyone uses the Voss on a 64 man server.

Does BF2 have an OPed weapon? Say, the G36E? Does everyone use it?

Also, is BF2 better than 2142 in any way?

G36 is a mowing machine but like many have pointed out you have to have sf to be able to get it, a lot of people never bought it so it isnt as common

Sniping is a lot easier tbh, i could whip out an l96 on BF2 and down crowds of people easily, i could easily use it as a close range weapon as well like the AWP from css

You will probably like it, but as time goes on you notice obvious annoyances and balance issues that 2142 doesnt have

It also takes a lot longer to load and it rains crashes, stability is a no no

Get it for the mods. :) It's only 10 bucks, and if you were going to buy NS spend your money on BF2 instead.

BF2 is a much more realistic game compared to 2142. The main difference is BF2 requires a lot more skill and is not so dependant on gadgets like in 2142. If you want to play and not depend on one weapon like a lot of people do in 2142 (Voss) then you will like BF2, but if oyu like one thing and get good at it then you might not like it.

More variety, and the maps are a lot more visually interesting than those from BF2142.
That and the number of available mods are the only things I can think of where BF2 has the upper hand.

I would say the uber weapon of BF2 is the J-10, and not the G36E... Anyone on the ground can have a G36E, but there can be only 1-2 J-10s in the air at one time, and unless you are extremely lucky or extremely good - all the other guy has to be is mediocre at best and you are toast... In a vehicle, in a helicopter, in a jet, in a boat, or on the ground... you are just dead meat.

Airpower in general is blown way out of proportion (in-game terms) in BF2... If you can fly a jet or a helo, you are solid... if you are a groundpounder or a vehicle guy... you better not play air maps (if you want to survive longer than 30 seconds)...

Last gripe -

If you think the titan corridor grenade spam is ridiculous... wait until you play a round of infantry only Karkand or Road to Jalalabad...

But beyond that, BF2 is a great game. Once you find your niche, BF2 looks a whole lot better under ANY circumstances than most of 2142... 2142 is kinda bland and dark and suicide inducing... go play wake island on max settings for some paradise... the dynamics are just about the same - because essentially they both use the same engine and gameplay. It's worth it if you have the time to check it out.

EVERY one of my mates that played 2142 before BF2 hated it. The overall BF2 experience is very different form 2142.

If you have a gripe with the voss you shouldn’t come near Battlefield 2 vanilla because there is a overpowered go-to weapon as well, only in the case of using this thing, the G36c you'll be faced with instaproning floppers whenever you engage, similarly with the medic G36E.

Another issue is that apart from the 36c/e weapons in general lack accuracy, whereas you can be sure to hit where you aim with even the weakest weapon (smg for example) in 2142 , you'll find yourself missing things very often when using iron sighted assault rifles, while the carbine specops versions have no such issue and have almost no recoil. (makes me wonder why some claim bf2 takes more skill.. it takes luck and the ability to hop/prone within optimum range and try to put as much lead downrange as possible).

Apart from the infantry game which is remotely balanced, you'll be faced with extreme vehicle imbalances, to each other and infantry. Top of the food chain is the Jet fighter, this thing can and does instantly kill any armor (tank and apc’s), the things are so fast that taking cover is not done, and the countermeasures.. smoke are pretty much useless. All the while the splash on said bombs is insane; clearing flags was never so easy. AA sites are usually strafed before they can lock or fire, and when they do AA rockets like to fallow other.. friendly targets, usually soft helicopters filled with infantry.

Then are the helicopters… these are bitches too in the presence of a jet, but have enough armor to co-exist in the same habitat to at least some extent. They tend to get ignored because unlike ground targets they are hard to kill. They themselves can also kill armor in one shot, and can take two anti tank missiles to kill. The chaingun it has can rape infantry, which is particularly true on urban chopper maps like Sharqi where AA sites are scarce, and usually sniper bait, their only weakness is machineguns mounted on vehicles.

Down at the bottom are the tank and apc, the apc usually isn’t much of a problem, and neither is the tank, even though they can form an issue when they have no natural preds like the heli/jet around. But you can and will be raped more than it then you ever will by a Nekotoma.

Truthfully battlefield 2 used to be fun before everyone got their hands on the powerful specops unlocks, and before everyone got instaproning n’ spam down to an art. Before jet pilots became *really* good, but now its no longer fun.. at least for myself. The maps do look better, but a game isn’t made by the eyecandy it offers.

But really, the game is cheap right now, so you can try it.

G36E is madness It's like a Krylov on steroids, BUT it is not available to everyone so it is not as prevalent as the Voss and Krylov.

Jet maps are crap, but I believe that you are a ground pounder so yuor best bet is to stick to the city maps. (Anything with a Chinese faction is a jetmap cept for Songhua Stalemate). The Gay36E is extremely annoying, but it's a medic gun, and medics die quickly (especially to my trusty anti tank snipe- erhh rocket launcher). Nadespam is also quite common but a good player will avoid high traffic areas.

I personally love titan mode as it adds a different segment/strategy to the game (I have dual nvidia 9800gtx cards so no titan lag for me). None of my clanmates who have the hardware to play 2142 play BF2 anymore.

BF2 is a good game but has its problems with balance. a good player will over come its faults. If you like the idea of battlefield and got a couple bucks to spare get it for sure. I still have a few rounds here and there.

I played a round of Karkand earlier this week. First time I've played it in I don't even know how long.

Good fun, at least until the game crashed. If you can get it cheap, there's really no reason not to, but it IS a lot more brutal than 2142 is, make no mistake.

In the end, though, I think 2142 > BF2, and it's not even because of balance issues or anything, but more just because I find the gameplay in 2142 more streamlined...tighter... somehow.
