Yeah, the situation is exactly the same within the frame of the game, the 36c being the easy way out, as the voss is. As for the PK rockets, no arc? You should have actually tried playing assault instead of hugging that shotgun.

I used them back in my old days. Sure, they travel in arc, but this is easily compensated for by moving your aim up a little. You only need to lead your targets a little bit because of the insane speed.

And you are extremely mistaken: The G36E is the easy way out, not the C The C allows for a different style of combat (more assaulting role instead of the sneaky sneaky spec ops style). The Voss allows for all sorts of combat, whether it be CQC, medium range, sneaky sneaky spec ops style, run and gun, etc.

I think BF2 has the worst small arms paradigm. The most powerful A. rifles are the least accurate, the most accurate are the least powerful, and every other one falls neatly in-between. Aside from how little sense it made, the ridiculous levels they took random deviation to sucked all the gratification out of landing a hit, as it was half up to chance if you were using one of the less than perfectly accurate weapons.

          Then there's the absurd belly-flopping.

Exactly. I went for a little BF2 fun the other day and when the enemy saw me, he dove to the ground, rolled over (and while upside down shot me) and killed me with one bullet. I immediately quit, took out the CD and fired up BF2142.

I had forgotten about this fun little gimic in this supposedly "more accurate" game... whatever.

Here is some reasons why BF2 has more players:

              1) BF2 was so buggy that the BF2 players refuse to buy 2142.
              2) Less hackers/cheaters in BF2.
              3) People say that 2142 is a "mod".
              4) Some people's PCs may not be able to run 2142.

Now i agree with you, the game has it's flaws, and I don't like the evil roll of death as well. But I engage enemies almost always at long range and the roll is a stupid manoeveur (How do you english guys spell that?) at long range as the only thing I can hit is your head. You probably got killed by an AK101, which has the potential to one hit kill people. Annoying yes, but perfectly counterable.

I almost didn;t buy 2142 cos of this but I gave em another chance (stupid me ...titan...)

                Agree.

Isn't 2142 a little bit less harsh on your machine as it is using a new and better rendering engine or whatever they call it?

Yeah, but crouching works suprisingly well as everyone expects you to belly flop instantly. When they are suddenly shooting my knee instead of my head they have a problem.

It isn't really less harsh. Although the engine is definitely better optimised and can handle things much more efficiently, BF2142 has a higher level of detail and special effects that offsets the performance and ultimately makes it both prettier and more intensive than BF2 (although the artistic merit of certain maps is questionable in my opinion; a lot of the BF2 maps seemed to have a better general atmosphere IMO).

That said, the specifications required to run either are remarkably similar, although not too surprising since we're only talking a year of hardware progression.

This is a better thread than I've seen around here on the subject. Thanks for sharing it!

Of the games across the top the only one that stands a chance of causing a mass exodus is Crysis, COD4 looks nice but unless the multiplayer side is very robust it might not generate enough of a spark to take off. I can say for a fact that ET:QW doesn’t do a thing for me, it’s trying very hard to be the Anti-Battlefield game but in the end it doesn’t feel right. One other that’s not listed is Unreal 3, graphics look amazing but will the gameplay be there too?

I still say Crysis is the one, unless they somehow massively screw up. It’s got things that anyone who plays Battlefield will like (iron sites, going prone, cloaking, vehicles with amazing physics, variety of weapons) plus it looks really good.

I was hardcore BF2 when it first came out, logged a couple hundred hours, had a lot of fun. Life took me away from gaming for a while. Came back to BF2 for another couple hundred hours. Moved over to 2142 the day the beta was released and have enjoyed it quite a bit. I still have BF2 on my system, but only so I can play POE2. I haven't played 2142 in months. The game play just got stale. The same couple maps over and over. Ranked servers locks out mods and community made maps, which are the life blood of a long running title. NS was a good value for only $10, but the content should have been held back and worked into a full expansion pack.

Looking forward, CoD4 will be my next time sink most likely. A small part of me will miss vehicles (but only a small part.) The rest of the MP game play looks polished to perfection though. Just waiting on a playable demo.

I was also pretty heavy into BF2 for a couple months, but I lost interest.

I find, with BF2142, that I just keep going back. I've spent many, many more hours playing 2142 than I ever did BF2. I just find it a heckuva lot more fun. Maybe it's the unlocks, or the futuristic weapons.. I dunno. Something keeps pulling me back everytime I get bored, which never happened in my BF2 days.

I prefer bf2142 to bf2 because everything is much more balanced, and it seems that I can hit where I point.
I tried again bf2 and I can´t seem to hit nothing, maybe that´s why people in bf2 call bf2142 a noob game.

I´ve asked this several times the random cone of fire in bf2 is greater than in bf2142 right?

As far as i know the only times you deal with a cone of fire is when you are using any weapon unscoped, and the light machine guns. Otherwise.. whenevery you are zoomed in it hits where you point it, but instead of a cone of fire you have a sway to deal with. Pretty realistic for such an arcade game.
