What makes the Zeller more popular?

Its an unlocked weapon, thats why :P many would think that its better because its an unlock weapon...in other words, pure stupidity, though I'll be the first to admit that some would actually choose it for the teamworking factor...helps to blow up mines and stuff

A few things have been overlooked here...

First, I think there's a bit of "emperor's new clothes" effect at work: Everyone is too scared to say that head-shots aren't always easy in case they look like noobs.

Well, sometimes the enemy is jigging about all over the place, at a distance, and has bits of scenery/objects partially obscuring him. Going for a head-shot then entails a high chance of missing (not counting aimbot users), and so the extra damage from the Zeller on a body-shot comes in handy.

Also, there tend to be plenty of injured soldiers running around on 64 slot servers. The Zeller will finish them off nicely, compared to the standard rifle which might leave them on a tiny bit of health still.

Finally, the value of being able to shoot out an APM is often equivalent to saving your team a ticket, given that your men were the intended targets for that nullified APM.

I think though that the loud bang is what draws people to the Zeller above everything else. Trouble is, this is just as true for the enemy... :)

...However, at least both teams get the same Zeller noise, unlike the stock rifles, where you can identify what team the sniper is on by the sound of his rifle. If the enemy have one of their own snipers nearby, then you can blend in to the minimap and the noise.

why do people use the zeller? because they think its better, and tbh, i have like 70 odd accuracy with the thing, compared to my 50 off with the stocks. i would use it if it didnt have that awfully noticable tracer, (its soooo obvious) and the huge BOOM.

tbh, i would rather not shoot at all then get a body shot in about 70% of situations, so the extra damage isnt appealing, and the explosive things doesnt appeal, cause i dont like to waste ammo, and you could also very easily TK a friend no?

but most of all, why i dont use it, its that tiny, red, god awful scope, its really irritating and distracting.

lol forces, personally I have not thought once of "if I only I had that extra 10-ish damage the zeller gives me!" And to be honest, 10 damage is healed in what...3 seconds? Anyways, even if you don't finish him off, chances are someone will, and you get the assist for 0.5 poinst which is perfectly fine by me lol. The "blowing up mines" use is perhaps the only reason I can see why anyone would take the Zeller over the stock ones. Although it is true that everyone could have the zeller rather than the stock, so people can't tell which side's sniper is it, I think that a simple look on the minimap will reveal most of it - no matter which side the sniper is on, the zeller will give away his/her position, and not giving away your position is rule #1 IMO.

I didnt think the zeller was more popular!!I think they need to buff this weapon to make it more worthwhile - take away the boom and tacer?Unlock weapons are supposed to be superior;which the weapon is on damage but the sight ,boom and tracer are big negatives for lots of players

Though I agree with Aeduz...they shouldn't be commonly as accepted as INferior either. Only the zeller is generally (A BIG general) considered inferior to its stock predecessors. Look at the Voss, Baur, Ganz, Pilum. Lambert, Clark and SAAW I leave out because they play different roles from the stock weapons. As you can see, Not many people would consider those weapons a DOWNgrade from their stock weapons. Some might not consider them an upgrade from the stock weapons, but rarely would anyone consider them downgrades.

The Zeller isn't better than any of the sniper rifles, except when you're playing as a assault sniper (eg moving a lot). It's simply easier to have good accuracy with the Zeller really quick.

Thats just my opinion -apart from the stock sniping rifle I think the unlocked weapons are better and should be better than stock weapons - you wanna run around with stock weapons be my guest but you wont see me doing it The unlocked weapons are more specialized in certain roles and that is why they are better at doing what they do

For me, the Zeller actually feels like a rifle compared to the Moretti and the Pan. The stock rifles feel and sound like peashooters. The Zeller has the punch and sounds like something you want to run away from.

In addition, I've saved myself and walkers from a motion mine death with it.

It's also my best weapon, with my newly unlocked Ganz starting to trail behind it.
