The MM have not been nerfed if anything balance has been brought to the game. Before with only the defuser you stood practically no chance against MM and your fun in the vehicle was brought to a premature end. Now if you are smart enough to bring them along with you your fun doesnt have to end until you get a pilum up your butt.

Speaking as the UK's 7th best killer with motion mines, I can say that placement is 80% of the equation. At Camp Gib, you can be sure of stopping FAVs from pushing south, so long as you back up the motion mines with EMP mines.

As for mine bait; well, those things make such a song and dance of the whole business of clearing mines, by the time they've finished their pretty orbiting nonsense, you really ought to have pilumed the crap out of whatever vehicle is sitting waiting to proceed.

If it's a long way away, then that's time to lay more mines. Either way, you're helping your team win and, probably, getting lots of kills too.

I play Camp Gib most days, and I see mine bait used in perhaps 5% of games, so most of the time you'll get straightforward easy kills.

...Just get good at staying alive long enough for your mines to do their stuff. It's a bi7ch having to respawn and lay new ones.

I have seen mine bait used to "fire" a guy's own mines down the road at a camping enemy walker.

Think about that, the walker drive just sees a swirling mess of MMs zooming towards him.

i Love it when people do that if i don't have a MMB, you can just walker normally strait away.
BTW motion mines are the most annoying things in this entire game, its even more annoying because people spam them these days.

I couldn't agree with you more, EMP mines help a lot. A good trick is to guide them to your Hidden motion mines with the EMP mines. For example I'll put 2 emp mines across the road, One of the sides will look easier to pass through, thats because my mines are hidden there. I remember watching the same guy fall for it 3 times in a row. sucker!

Oh I long for those heady days of 2006. MM's were one of my first unlocks and you could literally place them any where. Stupid players getting stupid wise to them.

on Camp G its so easy unless the people jump out of the car and if they do theres a good chance the MM will blow up on it anyway killing them

put the motion mines down then a few metres after Emp mines, they attract the MMs and try to drive drive away only to get owned by the Emp mines while the MMs just mow them down

I am currently ranked 253rd in motion mine kills worldwide (1631 kills, 22% accuracy) so I know a lot about motion mine placement too. I am not talking about placement issues, the motion mines work the same as ever - but the the introduction of a new, highly-effective counter to MMs has essentially nerfed them.

In the rock-paper-scissor structure of the game, if vehicles are the paper and motion mines the scissors, then the papers always had a rock available (the diffuser), but now the paper has a boulder available (the MMBs).

The vehicle always did have other rocks at its disposal as well - kill the engineer and wait for the mines to disappear, slowly back away from the motion mines, slowly roll into the mines and take the damage (and maybe have a buddy repair, or a crate dropped), just plaster the silo from a distance and let infantry take the silo (which is how joint operations should work anyway).

Now as soon as the warning tone goes off, the engineer just jumps out tosses the MMB and jumps back in. No real problems. And any serious vehicle player will be an engineer with MMBs equipped.

What I am saying is that MMs used to a threat all vehicles, now MMs are only a threat to vehicles with inexperienced or ill-equipped drivers. The net effect is a nerfing of MMs.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket then, I guess. Spread them out and/or stick around for when the engineer pops out and tosses bait, then gun him down or steal his ride.

if you spread the MMs out they will probably not destroy the vehicle anyway, and unless you happen to be right next to the vehicle when the driver stops you can not gun him down with the SMG (little damage at range) or steal his ride.

Well yeah... you'd definitely want/need to be hidden relatively close by to gun him down and/or steal his vehicle, no argument there.

And I see what you're saying about spreading the motion mines... you'd have to spread them in such a way as to insure not all of them get sucked into the bait trap, but still close enough together that enough of them would track a tank or APC... not an easy order to fill, I realize.

Hope for the best, and prepare to follow-up or open-up with a Pilum shot, I guess.

Wow when I saw you replied right away, I was expecting a flame of some kind or "not if your l33t like me!" response. Good to see some mature, well-reasoned responses (especially ones that agree with me!)

The MM bait is fine and a really nice addition as an unlock. If people are smart enough to use them effectively (and equip them at all), more power to them.

I've gotten use to the chaos of taking on damage for the team from the MMs and then having someone cover me and my vehicle while I repair. I'm not a big fan of MMB as I'd rather set EMP+MM traps and there are only two equipment spaces in my kit!

I like to think I'm a reasonable guy and easy to get along with.

In areas where I have little experience (like Engineers and Motion Mines/Bait), I don't have a problem accepting the wisdom of others who have more. :salute:
