How many more months for this game to be old news?

As i was playing my other BF games i noticed how close their releases were. Vietnam came out in 2004, BF2 in 2005 and 2142 in 2006. The OG BF has the largest lifespan (3 years i think) Does this mean we will see 1 or 2 Expansion packs before they move on to a new game?

I would love to see this game have a 3 or 4 year run. By this game being a futuristic game, i would assume it had more potential for a large amount of extra content. You can't make up 60 yr old history and you can't make stuff up in the present, but you sure can make up stuff about the future.

As long as it's still fun, people will play it. I still find it fun, so I still play it. That doesn't mean, however, that I wouldn't whore the life out of a new BF if they were to release one, but since we've heard no news of any up-and-coming BF games (for the PC, anyway) I guess we're going to stay here for a while longer.

Where else can they go after the future? Space? If so that would just be a Quake rip off. lol

A year or so sounds about right. When I take time off from playing and come back, I see how good a game it really is. Despite its many flaws the game has been worth every cent.

The thing that made me ponder this was when i saw it on sale for $30 at gamestop. What a rip off, i pretty much paid $60 (Cuz of tax) Back on release day.

I want the next booster to be free for anyone who paid more than $30 for this game.

Funny, I paid 59.99 for BF2, around 7 months after release. That was a ripoff.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons why i never really bought BF 2. In April of 2006 i went to the mall to see if they had BF2 and if it had dropped price. The game stop didn't have it and said that it still hadn't dropped in price. And the clerk told me that in OCT 2142 was coming out and asked if i wanted to reserve a copy. I reserved it, months went by and totaly forgot about it till about a week prior to release.

A few weeks after i pre order i saw BF2 at a lower price. Too late. I just thought "why do i want something that is going to be outdated in a couple of months?"

So maybe they are dropping price for 2142 early to avoid that type of stuff i guess

battlefield vietnam and while i didnt care for it much, battlefield 1942; were much more solid games. infact i would have to say 2142 is the most inconsistant, buggy, and all around worst put together of all of them.

I read in an interview regarding Dice's upcoming console Battlefield game that PC projects are ongoing for the Battlefield franchise; I believe it was in response to a question about the original platform being neglected (since Bad Company does look very beautiful). Not necessarily a whole new sequel, but it's very possible.

That cant be right, when I recently bought the game there was very few servers available.

Currently from game-monitor:
1942: 730 servers
Vietnam: 261 servers
BF2: 5195 servers
BF2142: 2395 servers

Servers aren't really a particularly good measure of game popularity. One game could easily have 2000 servers with around 2 players each and just a dozen or so extremely popular ones, while another could only have 100 servers but them all be full. This is especially true of certain older Half-Life mods that are cheap as chips to host servers for, so lots of clans and such have them but they're not very popular.

GameSpy's general statistic tracker has been around for many years and is very useful. It doesn't only track GameSpy-based games, and is a reasonably objective look at player counts.

Battlefield: Vietnam is by no measure still a particularly popular game, with less than 300 players online. This is a stark contrast to Battlefield 2 with almost 12,000, and Battlefield 2142 with around 5,000.

Note that these numbers will probably double or triple in the evening since I'm posting this now in the morning.
