I started BF with an older rig and upgraded pieces at a time and got the chance to compair my gameply both before and after an upgrade.

The one component that helped the most in my gaming was my G5 laser mouse. I never thought a good mouse would make a difference, but my accuracy improved roughly 15%.

The one component that helped the most over my gameplay AND system performance, believe it or not, was a soundcard with onboard proc. Not only could I hear arty coming down before it strikes and people moving around, my graphics and load time improved. I would have never thought moving the sound off the processor and onto the soundcard would make that much difference.

But if I had to choose between the two, its the mouse.

5.1 Sound helps big time. I have the X-FI Soundblaster and that helped performance also (like the guy above me). The laser mouse rocks also, they both give a great advantage.

But I enjoy my "features" just as well...

I gotta tell ya, having the Logitech keyboard with the LCD display just rocks, not so much as an advantage as it is a very cool feature.

Also, running two LCD panels is awesome also, I can see my winamp and TS/Vent on the other screen while playing... Good stuff...

i do have a spiffy rig (see sig), which helps... esp. in titan. i no longer lag even in a 64-player titan server, titans together, and smacktards are shooting the titan AA guns at each other.

but i think what gives me the edge is widmer hefeweizen. the greatest beer ever crafted by man. its a portland, oregon brew.

a few of those and i play my best. a few more and its the complete opposite.

            Mmmmmm, yummy!

For me, purchasing a new computer made the largest difference. The Creative Labs X-Fi 5.1 surround sound really made the game much more immersive. I had NO IDEA there were so many sounds in BF2142!

I also enjoy using my Wolf King Warrior game controller. It puts all your FPS keys within easy reach of all the fingers of your left hand. Fantastic product for less than $40.

Not too exciting on my end, but I'd have to say it was getting a gaming mouse, allowing for quicker movement and aiming.

In close second would have to be the Miller Lite (cheap but hella good). It lost out on first place due to the fact that it doesn't necessarily give me an edge (quite the opposite), but it makes the game so much damn fun because you don't really care when you die.

              How about everyone else?
The thing that gives me an edge over the others is that I am me. Nuff said.
