Fix for map only loading halfway then sticking.

Maybe an admin could make this a sticky, as a lot of people seem to get this issue.
It seems to resolve the problem of the maps loading up to a certain point then just frrezing the game.

There is a solution for the map only getting halfway that seems to work for most people, which is:

Go into c: program files: electronic arts, bf2142. In there there is a file called radial.cdb. If you cant see it, go to the top of the page and hit tool, then folder options, then view. Then make sure that you change "hidden files and folders" to "show hidden files and folders". Two lines below that is a line called "hide protected operating system files (reccomended)", make sure that this is no ticked. Then click apply, and you should see the radial.cdb file.
Now right click that file and left click "rename". Rename it to oradial.cdb.
The maps should now load with no problems. For some reason, this file seems to get corrupted. Why? I don't know, I'm not good enough on these things to tell, but this fix has worked for all my buddies and me as well.

Also here is another quick tip to shutting down battlefield if it freezes for any reason:
When you have to ctrl-alt-delete, Under applications I always get the message "the program is not responding" then I click "end task" and it used to take at least a minute to shut down.
Instead, when you hit ctrl-alt-del, go under processes and hit bf2142pace.exe and close that instead, a message comes up about "terminating this process will detroy the world, you marraige etc :) ", just hit close anyway, and hey presto! bf2142 gone immediately.
I hope this helps anyone who gets the same problems I do. (pretty much everyone who plays this dam game, I think :) )

how do you know it gets corrupted? And won't you get a modified content error?

I found the idea on here after having the same problem myself. As I say, I don't know a real lot about how it gets corrupted, but people on here who know a lot more about these things, say it does get corrupted.
I had the problem myself, and used the fix a couple of weeks ago, and it has worked for me, along with a few mates with no modified contents errors. I only ever play online, so if it was illegal I think punkbuster would have picked it up by now. I've just checked my bf folder and there is now a new file called radial.cdb. This new file is 721kb, while the file I renamed is 17001kb, which does sort of confirm that it has been corrupted. Also, if there is a new file called radial, then there can be no modified data, as it has just built a new version of the now missing file. I might even try deleting oradial and see what happens, if I pluck up the courage!
The only reason I posted it here was it took me ages to search for the solution, so thought it may be a good one as a sticky as a lot of people seem to have this problem.

Remove the file from the folder, its as good as deleteing but you can put it back if it goes tits up

I had the same problem and had a clanmate that had read the solution here. Followed the OP's direction and it works like a charm. No, you won't get any modified content error.

If you still can't find it, make sure you don't have "Hide protected operating system files" checked off. However, I would recommend checking it again when you are done.

I used Winrar to do it and it worked however it stopped working again with another problem and after I cleared the cache files it was all okay again.

Make sure you don't have "Hide protected operating system files" checked off. If it is checked you can't see the file.

Go to Control Panel, Folder Options. Under View uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files(Recommended)" The computer thinks it is a operating file so even if you have it set to "Show hidden files and folders," you won't see it without unchecking the other. After doing changing the radial file name however, you should recheck the "Hide protected operating system files" box.
