Yes, that is true. If you don't see them coming or too late, then you are toast. A walker pilot has to be constantly on the look out.

Firstly, if Jihad Jeeping was a tactic Dice didn't want in the game it wouldn't have survived multiple sequels in an almost unchanged form -- simple as that. I'd like all server administrators to acknowledge this, but since many also unbelievably ban rooftop camping (Oh my god, how unrealistic!!!!!) I hold little hope.
Jihad jeeping is a very effective but very risky way of taking out an enemy vehicle. The risk is that if you don't get blown up by the explosion itself (quite avoidable), the inevitable hordes of enemies in the area will immediately see what's happened and all turn their rifles towards you (not so avoidable). This is much more risk than an engineer takes on when throwing off some pilums.
And as was mentioned earlier, it isn't that difficult to take out a jeep as it's approaching, even if it's boosting. A tank can usually do it in one shot, and since they usually have to be coming straight at you there's not that much opportunity for missing if you lead it slightly. Walkers can usually kill the drivers with the machine gun, although a simultaneous barrage of rockets usually helps. APCs can probably take them out with an EMP and, again, machine gunning the driver.
They're powerful, but they can be countered. And why shouldn't the heavy vehicles like the walker feel a little bit open to a crippling attack that they constantly have to be on the alert for? Everything else does. It's not exactly much worse than running along and getting a shot in the head from some concealed sniper -- no chance to avoid it.
The only point at which I could consider calling the tactic lame is when somebody basically does it constantly, throughout the entire game. That just isn't helping the team very much, as usually vehicles can be evaded and/or taken out by engineers; as such, I'd see the player as lame for not helping his team where it counts rather than for the tactic itself.
Jihad jeeping is really something only effective for taking out that vehicle which is really causing your team some grief. I entirely support its use in this context.Comment

I don't mind jihad so much on maps where there is only a couple of walkers (Cerbere, Tunis, Camp G) but on maps where both teams have a few armoured vehicles (Belgrade + all non-city maps) Jihad is just annoying as hell.
On maps like Camp G it's understandable that you might need to Jihad to kill that walker, since you have little to know anti-armour yourself (and any engineers just get shot).
Belgrade is my pet hate for jihad. When I'm sitting in a tank on the main road (round about the Playground area) taking out the enemy vehicles, I always always always get killed by a jihad jeep eventually.
It's not like I rape your spawns like Walkers do. I just sit at the back - like tanks should, they aren't the close combat monsters of BF2 - stopping tanks, jeeps and APCs from rolling through and capping back flags. Then all of a sudden i see a little car come flying at me. Tank shell misses/flies through the jeep. The last thing I see is a little man pop out the side of the jeep.
Famous last words to my friends on Ventrilo:
"Oh god, JIHAD! JIHAD!"

Edit:
Whenever I get Jihaded it seems to be more of a case of "That guy killed me! I'll show him!" rather than "That tank is really stopping our team. I better go kill it."
Hell, if there really is a single armoured asset causing that much trouble then the commander will undoubtedly "lame combo" (how my friends refer to it) it with a simple click of EMP Strike, Orbital Strike.Comment

1: Have PDS on your armor to see when enemy FAVs are racing towards you. Should give you a good heads-up.
2: In a tank, just destroy the FAV with the main shell. However, in a walker or APC you don't have that luxury and honestly the FAVs are usually moving too fast to hit with the walker rockets or APC mortars. So..... you have to wait until they are most vulnerable. When they hop out. Remember, if you have the PDS on you should be aware of the FAV racing towards you. When they hop out annihilate them with your walker gun or APC gun/mortar. It won't always work but if you practice I'd say you can avoid 1 out of every 2 jihad attempts.
That being said I agree with the OP that there should be a 1-2 second delay when you hop out before you can detonate the RDX, if only to add a bit of realism.
But honestly Ghiblian, why would u ever stop flying the gunship lolComment

You shouldn't be flying that low in a gunship anyways. Once I rammed a jeep (no rdx) and killed a gunship with the jeep. :)Comment

Because people here in China prefer either city maps or nearly full Titan maps with Titan movement enabled. And to give you a gauge of how terrible the servers are, most servers start becoming unplayable in Conquest at 15v15. The Titan servers are absolutely unplayable for me after five minutes of Titan movement. =\ Thus, I've been playing Belgrade a lot whenever the big Conquest map servers are empty.
What? Are you talking about using the gunship as a vehicle for jihading? Or jihading a gunship with an RDX? o.O What's like flying into a feather? Either way, I don't think anyone has problems being jihadded when they are in a gunship.how the hell can u jihad in a gunship, its like flying into a feather, well most of the time lol
First of all, DICE did give the server admins some flexibility in choosing their own rules. Server admins have nothing to acknowledge. They are allowed to ban rooftop camping. No one argues its unrealistic (well, some people might, but that's not a good argument). Some servers just feel it detracts from the game because it takes away from the ground warfare that makes BF fun. There are tons of other valid reasons, but you can see the point here. Second of all, that logic is... terrible. There are cases where this holds true, and there are cases where this doesn't. For instance, obviously DICE doesn't intend for tank shells to go through fast vehicles. However, people have said this little bug has survived multiple iterations in the franchise. Sometimes DICE just has no good / easy solution to something so they choose not to acknowledge it so no one has an "official word" on the matter. In this case, a simple solution like putting a delay might have been missed. Or perhaps they realized some problems with this solution that I haven't. Whatever the case, just because DICE doesn't say anything about it doesn't mean it's right. And even if DICE WANTS something to be in the game, we as players have a right to contest mechanics of the game we play.Firstly, if Jihad Jeeping was a tactic Dice didn't want in the game it wouldn't have survived multiple sequels in an almost unchanged form -- simple as that. I'd like all server administrators to acknowledge this, but since many also unbelievably ban rooftop camping (Oh my god, how unrealistic!!!!!) I hold little hope.
I'm not an amazing player, but I feel I definitely have the experience to operate a tank pretty well. I, for the life of me, can't seem to hit FAVs before they reach me. Sometimes it'll even look like a direct hit but miss. I feel like it is excessively difficult and considering the relative value of FAVs vs tanks, this creates an unbalance. On a map like Belgrade (where is where I see this tactic most often), both teams have an APC, a tank, and one might possible have a walker. There really is no need for a 95% effective tactic when those resources, plus the many engineers and motion mines and support combinations, could easily take out the enemy vehicles. With a walker, you have a slightly better chance (although sometimes you can be shooting straight through the window of the FAV and not seem to hit the driver). With an APC, it depends on your EMP, which may or may not miss. If you have a second seat gunner, you have a decent chance. However, at LEAST, with the tank, considering you are already vulnerable in the rear with a one-hit rocket kill, the tank just has little to no chance against a boosting FAV.And as was mentioned earlier, it isn't that difficult to take out a jeep as it's approaching, even if it's boosting. A tank can usually do it in one shot, and since they usually have to be coming straight at you there's not that much opportunity for missing if you lead it slightly.Comment

"You just killed a helicopter with a car!"
"I was out of bullets..."
BIG FAT EDIT:
In regards to what ghiblian said, I strongly agree. Tanks have no effective counter to RDX jeeps, since their shells lag straight through the jeep. Yet, Tanks are the weakest armour (meaning Tanks, Walkers and APCs) in the game, being killable in a single hit to anywhere on one entire side of the vehicle. Walkers have a vent which is near-impossible to hit unless the walker pilot is an idiot, AFK or being locked down by EMP spam. APCs have some spot at the bottom back where they can die in one hit or something? Considering the APC can easily kill you, your squad and your squad's entire extended family in a single *thump thump thump* I dont think this weakspot is the easiest thing to hit.
Jihad jeeping is fine, in my opinion, on maps where there is little armoured presence. These maps allow a single vehicle to dominate, and tend to have a low Engineer population. Jihad jeeping (and transport crashing: If that guy who tried (and failed) crashing me 5+ times, as well as crashing one of my teammates tanks repeatedly, yesterday is reading this then seriously, you need to get another tactic) on maps where both teams have high amounts of armour is just annoying and rarely helps your team. You could Jihad that enemy tank, but now you're stuck in the middle of nowhere with no RDX and no ride. Alternatively you could've just got your own tank and killed him with it. Especially easy if you are PAC: just shield, strafe around the back and hit the Tiger in the butt for insta-kill.Comment

Whaha there are a lot of people out there who are jihadding in the gunship...
when they are not getting a kill fast enough and the target is shooting back...
loads of people are then going on jihadding spree....
it's quite anoing but there are people out there who does...Comment

APC is minimum 2 hits to kill with anti-vehicle weapons. There's a part of the rear near the bottom that does around 60 damage. I think hitting the top does 60 too.Comment
