      Reminds me of Blackadder:

-will this brilliant plan involve us to climb out of our trenches and walking very slowly towards the enemy sir?
-How could you possibly know that Blackadder that is classified information!
      ..
-There is however one small problem.
-That everyone will be slaughtered within the first ten seconds?
-That's right. And Field Marshall Hieg is worried this may be depressing the men attached

I like "the future with lazers n' stuff", but I voted WW2, which is only a seconds place.

        Future, near or far.

Mainly because the weapons/vehicles are more varied, which just makes things more fun.

I mean, what present/past shooter has weapons that can match halo's needler? Or Dystopia's Tesla rifle?
        .
        *thinking*
        .
        .
        Resistance doesn't count, goddamit.

            BUT
WWII is way OVERUSED. What is there? Call of Duty, Band of Brothers, Company of Heroes, Medal of Honor, ET: Wolfenstein, Hour of Victory.
Highly doubt any of them are WWI, I could be wrong. Plus I bet money I missed a whole bunch.

Modern day ftw but I would choose future as well. Not Titans or crap like that but mostly just guns and no vehicles. Games like Quake, Doom, Unreal Tournament (Even though it has vehicles) are super fun.

              Where's the Cold War/Vietnam option? That's what I'd choose.

EDIT: In retrospect, the 2142-style near future option is great for the reason already mentionned: that devs can be creative with items and weapons and not have to worry about realism.

Isn't Band of Brothers a tv show?

I voted for present day, though i do enjoy all sorts of warfare, just nothing earlier than world war 2 really, as then it gets boring without decent weaponry. I also love star wars so future is another time i enjoy fighting in, the sophisticated weaponry and vehicles adds a whole different element to the games as they are totally fictional and can be anything the designers of the game want them to be, not based off real versions of vehicles.

He probably means "Brother in Arms". A friend of mine mixes those two names up all the time :p
But yeah, I think that after CoD II, it's going to be hard to top the WW2 FPS experience.

Haha yea. All these names sound the same.

I don't get it. Mind explaining how I got owned? The titles are similar and my point still stands that WW2 games are overused. Now keep your mouth shut.

The thing I love about 2142 is that it's future, without being over the top about it. I still like to play Star Wars Battlefront once in awhile (despite it's numerous bugs, glitches, and blatant cheaters), but of course it has no real basis in reality. That's how it's supposed to be, pure sci-fi.
But 2142 is completely different. I think it's cool to think that almost 140 years into the future we're not using lasers or photons or whatever, the guns are still firing good old fashioned bullets. Even things like the walkers and hovering accipitor drones are using bullets. (Though I'd like to know where a droid as small as the accipitor stores all this ammo.)
I say go watch a few episodes of Future Weapons. I've already seen the equivalent (though low tech compared to 2142) of the sentry gun, the EMP mine, and the Pilum. Some of these weapons in 2142 aren't so far fetched after all.

You forgot to mention that the navy is looking into Rorch-style railguns.

And Rifle Rockets are being developed.

And the Active Camo from MGS.

Also, the Tesla Rifle from dystopia has a real life version as well.
