    Infantry Kills as Pct

    I've often been criticized for not using armor enough when I play. I'm curious what everyone's stance is on using vehicles in a game designed to be infantry-oriented. Do you avoid them like the plague? Think they are "dishonorable" or "cheap"? Use them when you can? Seek them out first and foremost? Enjoy slaughtering them? Are you helpless without them?

    More specifically, how often do vehicles account for your kills? Vreki's post in another thread got me thinking of an interesting statistic, and that is the percentage of one's total kills that are made with infantry weapons. You can calculate this by going to your EA statistics page and under the "Weapons" heading, adding up all the kill numbers across the three subsections (faction specific, unlocks, explosives/drones). Divide by your total kills in the "Player" heading to get a percentage. Doesn't take more than a couple minutes to do with the Windows calculator and I'm curious if my own percentage, 15728 / 17416 or 90.30%, is abnormally high or low.

    Should this statistic be treated as a measure of skill on the battlefield, or just one of personal preference? What is your own percentage based on your stats? Discuss.

    Vehicles should only be used for transport or primary front line assaults. And they shouldn't be whored.

    When peeps start camping flags and hanging out hiding near roads and other flags, just shooting people running to the battle, I'm forced to grab RDX and pull suicide tactics to stop it.

    I LOL hard at people on northern strike who are useless outside of a vehicle.

    They are so dependant on vehicles that when you face them in an infantry battle they can barely shoot and die so fast with ease.

      Just checked my stat, infantry pct = 14992/16493 = 90.9%
      Slightly higher than yours :).
      I just believe that anyone could go on a massacre of 5-10 easily once they hop onto a tank or mech, let alone crazy APC whoring on berlin. I don't usually drive a vehicle unless the situation forces me to. Vehicle whoring is just second to titan canon whoring, both unbeatably dominating. Why join hands to make this game even more unbalanced?
      Simply proud of NOT being a vehicle whore.

        I don't use vehicles much, but I do think they are part of battlefield and never taken out of the game. There a lot easy to deal with in 2142 then bf2. i do agree with you on camping flag with vehicles. When i drive i keep moving, looking at my mim map seeing where my vehicle is needed.

          I hate Walkers, I use APCs and FAVs for Transport purposes only, I can use a tank but don't do it often and I am a Gunship Whore.

            i want those medals and badges so im spending more time in them nw. anyway, the battlefield franchise is synonymous with vehicles, its nt supposed to be mainly infantry and always has been since 1942. infantry games are like cs or ut, not battlefield. so i feel nothing wrong with whoring vehicles cos the game was designed this way.

              I don't mind vehicles at all, but they should be treated carefully so they don't turn into BF2 Jets.
              If one team dominates the map solely because they have one very good driver, then there is a balance issue.

              There is no doubt that the top anti-infantry-vehicle-whores are very good at what they do, but it is like being the world champion in shooting fish in a barrel.
              You may be good, but you wont get much respect.
              Take that skill to the vehicle maps instead, and earn some real respect.

              My preferred map design would have most of the control points as "islands" accessible only to infantry. But between the CPs vehicles would be free to roam.
              That would encourage vehicles to fight vehicles, and support their troops when they need to cross between CPs.

              Oh yeah, and 3425/4291 = 79.8% as infantry.

              I don't suppose anyone knows the guys at 2142-stats, and could convince them to create a few skill measuring stats?

                1April is the manager of that site, but how do u propose a skill measurement be made?

                  Yeah that topic should be able to get a nice flamewar going

                  I will have to think of the specifics, but accuracy would probably be a factor

                    You should do what you have to do to win. This is a game. Myself, I prefer to snipe. I have seen some really good walker people. When the slaughter me, i just move on. I don't think it is unfair when you have a really good person who uses whats around him to his advantage, or the opposite.

                    The low done is. Its a game. You gotta do what you can do to win. If you are losing, find away around it.

                      Fair or not, the topic of the discussion was about skill.
                      Singlehandly storming a CP and killing 5 enemies = 5 points
                      Parking your walker at a spawn point and killing 5 newly spawned soldiers = 5 points.

                      On the leaderboard those two actions are equal, but I don't think you can claim that the require the same skill.

                          No worries, I almost gave in to the temptation my self

                          How about this skill formula :
                          Tp = Teamworkpoints
                          Kt=Total kill
                          Kv = Kills in vehicles
                          t = time played
                          Rv the relative value of a inf kill in a vehicle. 1/3 IMO

                          So SkillScore = ( Tp +(Kt-Kv) + Kv*Rv ) / t

                          Basically it is your score per minute, but with reduced points for Vehicle on Infantry kills.

                            For me;

                            S = (19633 + (24004 - 2529) + (2529/3)) / 22200
                            S = (19633 + 21474 + 843) / 22200

                            SkillScore = 1.8896

                            Let's see how this pans out.
