i have recently switched from a crappy optical mouse to the razer habu, which is a laser type. i personally had the problem you are afraid of, but i only had it in the beginning, after a while you get used to it, and you lift it higher/whatever works, so it will take some time getting used to, but it will improve your performance a lot

i got the MX518. optical and its the best mouse iv had yet when i was in the shop i had both the g5 and the MX518. and i liked and still do the MX518. the extra to buttons are very usful its light since i dnt like heavy mouses and the sensitivy change is very good for instance jumping in vehicles u can adjust the speed especially useful in tank and heli/jet

its mainly personal preference tho so whatever u feel is best
