Alt+tab out of the game. Did a window pop up? Perhaps the Windows firewall message or something else?Comment

Background questions...- Are you running in DirectX or OpenGL in CS1.6?
- Which operating system are you running?
- What video card are you using?
- Are your video drivers up to date?
- Can you see the effects of an invisible mouse cursor (ie, items highlight) or is there no response whatsoever from mouse movement?
- Does this happen in other multiplayer FPS games as well, or just CS?
Possible troubleshooting steps:- Try playing in windowed mode and see if it still disappears.
- Try dropping your hardware acceleration down one notch (Right-click desktop, select properties, click troubleshoot tab, drop the slider down one notch below full.)
- If mouse trails are enabled, try disabling them. If they're disabled, try adding the shortest ones possible and see if it shows up then.
- Make sure no other applications are stealing the window focus away from CS.
- If you're using a laptop (or desktop with multiple outputs), make sure you're set on single-display mode, not multi-monitor.
