Statistics don't lie, Beta HAS been a disappointment, let your voice heard, speak up!

I would like to bring the "what's obvious" to everyone's attention, that is, the BETA of BF3, as far as a "BF2 sequel" is concerned has been a failure. You can go to EA UK forums for BF3 and see for yourselves, this is a poll that I had posted there (http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/b...ppointing.html) and you can see within 2 days, with nearly 200 votes, %65 of the people agree that it has been a disappointment for a BF2 sequel.

This is a game that we all have been waiting for nearly 5 years. This is the Battlefield 3, not Bad Company 3. DICE got carried away and got lost in the process of making sales. That's all fine, then this game should have been called Battlefield : Bad Company 3, not Battlefield 3. The name "Battlefield 3" has a very big meaning to itself.

This is not just 1 or 2 whiner complaining, this is EVERYWHERE in every forum, in every thread about beta, people are disappointed. So let your voice be heard, we know DICE is reading these forums, make them understand that they need to do something about this.

Personally, I and 4 other friends have cancelled our pre-orders, along with 2 x 64 player server subscriptions. We want to buy this game and play it, but not in this condition.

We are not against change. What DICE has done is not a new FPS paradigm that goes into positive direction. Instead of building on top of the existing game, BF2, they have removed existing features, dumbing down the game. They haven't made something better, they have made it for the worse.

People LOVED BF2. Yes they hated its unfairness and some bugs here and there, but the overall gameplay and the core aspects of what makes BF2 "the" Battlefield game, we all LOVED. There was no reason as to why they had to break a perfectly working game, remove things that we all loved.

Instead of removing the commander mode, they should have enhanced it.
Instead of dumbing down the squads, they should have enhanced it.
Instead of giving auto-heal for soldiers and armor, they should have made the game better such that you don't nead auto-heal.
Instead of making armor completely useless with %50 disable, they should have enhanced it by giving different rounds and protections.
And lastly... Instead of making unlocks the "purpose" of the game, they should have kept them as aids in the game. They have created such a system that you can not succeed without unlocks. In BF2, a good player with a M203, could always succeed in a good team. Now it's about who has the flare unlock or the bomb unlock or the shock paddles unlock.

And now, it's not about who is a better player, it's more about who aims and shoots first. Well DICE, hear this out, we already have a game that does that perfectly fine, it's called "Call of Duty". Your pearl, Battelfield 2, was the leading game in its class, before you destroy it forever, do something about it.

Re: Statistics don't lie, Beta HAS been a disappointment, let your voice heard, speak

I am glad you made the choice to cancel your pre-order. I believe that if any game doesnt meet up to someones expectations, then they should cancel.

It is everywhere how people want BF2.7 and anything less simply wont do. These people shouldnt get BF3 because they are going to be very disapointed. You're not against changed, you just want an enhanced BF2, thats all. I get that. The thing is how people are surprised by this. DICE has made it very clear on the changes and, to give them credit, they have decided on a few things to put back, such as the commo rose.

Check out what I wrote back on June 8th:

I called it. Nothing has changed otherwise. A lot of fixes from the beta and you all know how BF3 is going to be before the alpha and the beta and on release.

People did love BF2, it was a great game and gave many hours of enjoyment. It was also a very drastic change from 1942 and Vietnam. Also, I already own BF2 and dont want to buy it over and over. I already own a number of CoDs like that, why would I want to do that with Battlefield?

So instead of a max of two commanders on a server and getting vote mutinied because someone wanted the spot instead of you, everyone has a chance to use the tools of commander.

The EA UK forums also wanted everyone to go to some type of "Battlefield School" before they were allowed to fly. How fair is that? Yet you worry about unlocks?

The EA UK forums had 3 different polls on if Commander should be in the game or not. The second one was an astounding no and was declared "tainted" and "rigged".

Unlocks are aids in the game. You need unlocks for equipment to aid others as well as to enhance your weapon of choice.

A better player? Maybe a better hopper or diver vs. someone getting flanked and shot at first. I have to admit it did take me some time to be able to hop and dive correctly and I did die a lot until I figured it out. So yeah, thats skill as you have to learn it. Throwing the grenade didnt take much skill though.

But anyway, many people do want BF2.7 and I salute them for holding to their convictions and not buying this game. Maybe I am just a "Bad Company 2 fanboy", but at least I played every Battlefield game and knew what to expect in all of them. A true fan of the SERIES would know that. A fan of one of them would not.

Also, you should have made it the same poll as the EA UK forums. I guess its not too late for someone to make one.

And I forgot the most important thing, its been proven that statics can be skewed in any way to get any answer.

Not trying to be rude, but do you really thing 200 people on a predominately PC gaming forum represent the entire gaming population?

Preorder numbers show the exact opposite (BF3's preorders skyrocketed after the beta).

Re: Statistics don't lie, Beta HAS been a disappointment, let your voice heard, speak

Those complaining need a reminder that beta was a taste and the developers were very clear on what was not included in the beta that will actually be in the final release. I recommend following http://www.enterbf3.com/ they seem to be right on top of things. One of their members played a "close to final" build and what it takes to kill infantry has been increased from beta to final. So the complaint about kills being for those who aim and shoot first is no longer true. Though, shouldn't it be the one who aims and fires first that gets the kill? As opposed to the one who aims and shoots second? But I digress ... The tank kill mechanics have been tweaked to mirror BF2, also. In beta it took multiple shots to destroy a tank, but final will allow you to focus on the weak points like BF2. To sum it up, this isn't a BF2 sequel and has never been promoted as such. Those who wanted it to be a sequel were not and are still not listening to all the information that describes the game. I'm a Battlefield fan, not just a BF2 fan. So my pre-order is intact and I intend to enjoy what the game brings instead of bitching about every little thing that was in BF2 that's not in BF3. This will still be worlds better than COD as always.

Re: Statistics don't lie, Beta HAS been a disappointment, let your voice heard, speak

Has the beta for Bf3, or BC2 ever crashed as much as BF2 did for the first 2+ years? Nope, so that puts us off to a better start.

Does there need to be changes? Yup I think we can all agree to some changes depending on what we feel isn't working right, or is missing, or should be removed. However Bf2 had it's share of changes needed, and that weren't implemented correctly in some of ours minds. Were the Blackhawk guns too powerful at first, yes, but then they nerfed them and made them largely useless. Were the planes OP? Yes but they waited until 1.4 to get the mobile AA strong enough to counter aircraft. Was theJSF is the weakest plane in the game? Yes, and they waited 5 years to really fix it.

They made a awesome titan mode, and it lagged like hell for over a year.

Battlefield as long as I've been playing it isn't a perfect or refined game. But it offers great vehicle play, that balances some realism, with good rock paper scissors game mechanics. BF2 had HORRIBLE infantry combat compared to other shooters of the day, the recoil cones especially were painful. However all the great infantry and vehcile games I played years ago on PC are gone, Tribes and planetside are set to make a come back though soon. Halo had a bit, but again not a big PC title, and I would have like to play M.A.G. if it was on PC. Heck the irony of DUST514 being attached to a great PC MMO, but being PS3 only is much like M.A.G., tempting me to grab a PS3 just to try it out if it's good.

AMRA, I've played a fair bit, but even most of my friends say, while they think the game has great aspects, it's a little too realistic, and time consuming for a game, in their opinon.

If Call of duty full embraced vehcile combat, then I might have another option. Though even as a FPS, I prefer BC2, to all the COD games after WAW. And while I could play COD4 or WaW with mods, destruction is just something I don't want to give up. Plus squads, which while I liked that they added in for easy identification in WaW, never was as close to spawning on a team mate directly.

So here is a question to those that really think BF3 is a waste of money, what other FPS with vehicles should I be playing instead? And that I can recommend to friends that aren't looking for the realism and time involved of ARMA.

Statistics DO lie. All the fucking time. Online statistics are taken by those who take the time to complain. Look at what happened with another (arguably) Battlefield game, Battlefield heroes. When they changed the payment system, Fucktons of people complained, saying that they killled their game. Guess what happened? Nothing went any other direction than UP. Their profits rose, and their playerbase didn't dip for long, and even users who were increasingly outspoken actually started paying for ingame items.

This is a similar case. The vocal minority on forums do NOT represent 100% of the playerbase. A great deal of people probably don't even know what a forum is, let alone that a game has them.

                  Biased poll anyway.
Not everybody wanted a BF2 sequel, many just wanted a new BF game.

So many DICE fanboys here, it was my mistake to even post it. I should have known better with the lack of threads and activity about anything useful for the beta. I remember these forums from the days of TotalBF2 and when GameWizard used to run it, they were a lot more different, back then it was a proper gaming community where people could voice their opinion. Now it became a shop for DICE's marketing department. Have fun with BF3, I'm out of here.

                      Almost.

He gets points for proper grammar, using paragraphs, and clearly stating what he wants. Sequels in the game industry are like movies that use the line "Based on a true story," or "Inspired by.." They don't have to be 100% true to the original, just enough for it to be familiar to the audience. The game he wants won't get made as long as the majority of your target audience is sitting on the couch with a controller in their hands.

In DICE's defense, the folks expecting BF2.5 appear to be willfully ignorant. I don't recall one piece of news or media that painted any picture but a BC styled full BF game. Nothing that shows any attempted bait-&-switch by EA with product marketing. Granted, I only really started following the game a couple months ago. I intentionally stay away from the early rumor hype machine because I've been burned in the past with what I was expecting from a game vs. what came in the box.

You knew there were going to be some CoD influences, which is a good thing IMO. Infantry play in BF2 was actually one of it's worst features, yet look how much 'Strike at Karkand' got played? IO mode was welcomed with song and praise. I don't know anyone that liked getting killed by tanks or jets they were powerless to stop. Now it looks like vehicles are more force multipliers than powers unto themselves.

I DO think they are making a mistake with no Commander or Commander Assets. That was a great game mechanic. I LOVED the cat-&-mouse games between Spec Ops and Engineers.

I'm also siding with DICE with regard to 4 man squads. With the ability to spawn on any squad member, 6 man squads would be almost impossible to eradicate.

Unlocks are definitely not needed to play well. They simply give you more game play options. One of the things I liked most about the beta was how well the default class weapons performed. I wouldn't think twice about taking an AK-74 or M16 into a fight. I actually preferred the MK11 over the first Recon unlock (SV98?) Imagine playing Medic in BF2 without the G36?

See, this is what you get when you voice your own opinion. Youre called a name and shouted down. In this case, we couldnt be shouted down so they leave instead and we are "fanboys".

There are some good points made. There are some changes I want to see as well, but I dont want another BF2. I already have that. Im ready for some new stuff and different ideas.

Thats my opinion and I am sticking to it. If that makes me a DICE fanboy to some, then so be it. If someone wants BF2.7 and doesnt want BF3, then so be it. Thats OK, but you have to decide what you want.

I dont blame Rambo, or Chris_Redfield, or Stryker, or RedInk, or <INSERT THE MANY NAMES HERE> if they dont get the game or if they want a BF2.7. They should voice their concerns to DICE and see about making changes. A number of things were added back because of this and I think its good. But none of these people have shouted down others that also want to voice their opinion.

Anyway, whatever, TL;DR : Its a shame DICE was driven away from their own forums by their "fans"

From what I've seen in the beta, this really does seem like a battlefield game:

someone drove an apc to the airfield just so they could get to the plane first, leaving the apc sitting on the runway.
players running by me, not dropping health or ammo.
players spawning on my concealed position behind enemy lines and then shooting full auto, giving away the position.
players using planes and choppers as transports so they can just bail out on a flag.
players flying away in the chopper and not taking a gunner.
                            players griefing other players.
                            players with obvious hacks.

Thats all true signa, but you are missing the point:

                              1. You werent getting a supply create dropped right on top of you.
                              2. You werent getting artied by your own commander.
                              3. There wasnt spam going across the screen about an enemy boat on a map that didnt have a boat.
                              4. You werent being told to go to a position that you were not even near.
                              5. Only 3 guys gave away your position instead of 5.

                              And the most important one of all;

You werent vote kicked off the server.

All very important things needed to make this a true Battlefield game.
