I just find it funny how everyone is all of a sudden defending BF2....that game has had nothing but problems from start to finish. Dont even get me started on mod support, atleast a while back Dice straight up said there wont be any mod support for bf3 instead of dragging us along. Bf2 was ridiculous, tools that were buggy and never updated, half the engine was hardcoded and virtually NO support from Dice. I just got to laugh out loud whenever someone brings up modding when defending BF2. I remember HATING Dice....being so worked up about this shit....saying I'd never buy another Dice product again...on THESE forums no less. But at the end of the day no one offers this type of gameplay.....plus....its just a damn video game. Life to short to get worked up about this shit.

BF3 looks pretty fun so I'll be playing it at release....

I must admit I don't post as much as I used to on the EA UK forums, as I mainly get negative, and abusive comments just because I have a positive view on the game. I can understand why some people call it Mordor!

So whose nice idea was it to remove VOIP from the game and put it in battle log? Are these people for real? I mean you could argue with me about those other changes about game style and how things have changed in a good way (in your opinion) and this and that, but there are some things, like VOIP, which were perfectly fine features of the game and it makes absolutely no sense to remove them. How will you every manage a team of 64 people in a full server now? How will they talk to each other? I cannot tell you how many times I would just join a random server and stay there for hours just because I could communicate and play so well with random people in BF2, and so many of those times I ended up making friends with those people. I mean come on, this is ridiculous!

LOL, one does not simply post into Mordor. I do it for the lolz, but it does take a strong conviction sometimes.

What you say is true, I think we all tend to forget to have fun and that it is just a game, but there were a lot of good things about BF2. It was one of the first modern era shooters. There were a lot of different vehicles and the jets were great. The buildings were a little lacking, but overall the maps were nicely done. Also, DICE did support the game for quite a few years. Though I heard the mod tools were terrible, at least there was an option and I think thats how Demize got his start before being hired on to work with 2142.

Every game has their issues and BF2 is full of them as well, but I think we all played countless hours on it and had a great time doing so. So there has to be some magic to it.

One thing that bugs me though is how people are just throwing BTK aside on these arguments. I think it really says something for DICE to go back and bring up four maps, the vehicles, and the weapons from BF2. People want an updated BF2, there you go. I dont see it getting any closer then that unless they include commander and 6 man squad in that as well.

Don't get me wrong, I loved every minute of it. Every battlefield game has come with its fair share of problems. Its part of the experience lol. For some reason people think bf3 will be different, it will come with its share of issues. I m sure things will be ironed out though. Sure dice has made some strange decisions with this game, some sound better than others. At the end of the day there never going to please everyone, they did say there were gonna leave the option on the table though for changes to be made. Nothings ever anything concrete...

There will most likely also be a series of mappacks or expansions.
If the "real" BF maps are most popular, then that is what EA will be selling us. Because they like money. A lot.

I'm actually really curious to see what they do with the Karkand map pack and how popular those maps prove this time around. Given how popular those were in BF2 and the BC series overall smaller maps, I wonder if the larger vehicle heavy maps will make a comeback.

BF2 was an amazing game that I played for 600 hours (this only includes actually play time and not time spent loading maps, menu, etc) BC1 i bought and played for about 5 hours max on my PS3. BC2 was also an amazing game, however, I only played for less than 20 hours on my PC. This speaks volumes on the way these games are created. I feel I almost should cancel my pre-order, however, I really want to play BF3 before I shoot it down but I agree 100% with the OP's post, it doesn't feel like a BF2 sequel.

Whenever someone says "Not a BF2 sequel" I hear "Not a BF2 remake". I don't think we will ever agree.

But look at it this way: Very likely, Bf3 is the closest thing to a new Battlefield game you will get for half a decade.
So do you to take the jump, or end up like Counterstrike players, playing the same game with the same maps on the same servers against the same people for ever and ever and ever, until even Sisyphus takes pity on you?

Exactly. People dont want to hear that its not a BF2 remake and that when DICE said "True sequal to BF2" they clarified what that meant. People didnt want to hear that and now so many are beating themselves and DICE up on it. This is the quote that started all this:

Battlefield 3 is the successor of Battlefield 2 that came out already in 2005, so it’s been a long time coming for us to develop the sequel. We felt that we’re going to do a true sequel to this game. Of course, we needed to look at what we had in that game, and also listen to what the community wanted. Bringing back Jets was, basically, one of the top three things they wanted.
Live stream online from your browser or the Vimeo app. High-quality, low-latency, and fast streaming software with engagement tools for live events.

The context was that Jets and 64 player was a must to do that. Some things are there and some things are gone. The third thing people wanted? IDK; commander? 6 man squad? battle recorder? mod tools? 25 maps? in-game voip? in-game only browser?

People hate on Bad Company so much that even the look of it in Battlefield instantly makes it a BC game. I know I keep bringing it up, but I called this back in June what would happen and that was way before we know what we know now. It still surprises me that so many people feel they were thrown off guard by these changes.

I was going to make a longer post but figured I had done it already a million times in other places

simply to say however that if this game was simply a remake of BF2, I would have second thoughts about buying it and I would be a lot more sceptical

Sure there are players that want a lot of different things, some players want some things while others do not (for example I do not necessarily care if there is a Commander, or LAN support etc etc, but I am sure there are people that want those things)

but at the end of the day coming down to gameplay, if it was simply a BF2 remake and shackled down by what that game did it would be a bad thing and no better than CoD. For all of BF2's great stuff it had just as much if not more terrible and rage inducing crap going on as well

I for one liked the beta a lot, I understood that it was a beta, a build that was several months old and I still had a lot of fun with it

Its a long wait until the release now

Hitreg improved, full mini-map, spotting tweaked, squad management, etc etc etc

Reading the comments some people are STILL asking for a training or licence mode before people can fly the jets or man the tanks. What do they think is happening when you start with only the basic stuff in these vehicles? Those that are not that serious about them will move on to something else.

Its amazing how people want all these features in any game and then wants to regulate how others should use them.

Agreed, but I do wish there was some sort of practice map or something to get a feel for everything. Kinda like starting your own local server in BF2.

Yeah, practice, but thats what single player and Co-Op is meant for and hopefully they will allow you to move around before a game starts on the servers so you can go to an empty one.

What they are talking about though is you cant get into a vehicle of some sort until you finish some single player style training ground thing.

Pro pilots crash their stuff all the time, it just sometimes happens. I remember my biggest crash was because my mouse slipped off the pad. Full huey went into the ocean. I usually ferried people across because they trusted my flying. Whoops that day
