I sure hope so Stilla. As I think we all have said, it doesnt make sense to make squad creation in BF3 that difficult. It goes against everything DICE said they were working towards on BF3. I mean, they perfected the squad system and to cripple it like that by making it that cumbersome just doesnt fit with their plans.
Its like the arguments for Battlelog; Finding a game is easier, launching a game is easier, filtering is easier, updating is easier, creating friend groups are easier, joining a game with friends is easier, adding friends to put into a group so you can create a squad, while in game, is NOT easier.
Yeah it's the one thing in the Beta, that seems to not make sense. Even when you make a party in battlelog, it dosen't always put you in a squad together. Some times it makes sense, because there might only be 1 slot on each team open so it divides you on either team. Much like joining a server from your friends list in Bad company 2.
However, some times it dosen't do that, and puts people in a party in battlelog, into seperate squads. Now that shouldn't be happening, and hopefully that's just a beta issue. But it still begs the question of how does one move to a specific squad.
If it's in battlelog, and with just your friends in a party, yeah that sucks since you need to alt+tab to do it, but it's the minimum to get friends into each other squads, however I don't see a squad system in the party menu in battlelog, and you can have a lot more then 4 people in a party. Now maybe once you have 5 people in a party it'll let you divy up the party into specific squads.
There is still no place yet to assign squad leaders, in Battlelog or in game. That's the one thing that definetly needs to get added, so I'm hoping those two are going to be added together.
However even if it is a function of battlelog, and the partying system with your friends list. It'll still kill all of the great aspects of Public battlefield servers. First is just having full squads, if you can see all the squads, and lets say it's just 2 of you in a squad and you see another squad with two people, often me and my friends will join them, just to have a full squad and help our team. Second for people who are about to get a chopper, and are looking for a gunner, usually you would see their message, join their squad, and then maybe even suicide. Spawn on them right away, mid flight. That shit is bad ass, and how public teamwork in battlefield servers works better then in most other games.
The only thing I can say to give most of you hope is in the battlelog forums, this is the biggest thread, in general discussion, almost always on the 1st page, and constantly getting signed. There are even other threads that are fairly big asking the same thing. And we know about the twitter questions, and people asking DICE reps in TS. However we need very specific clarification of what our options are going to be for squading, it sounds like it'll just be in battlelog from the twitter post, but even in that it was a very vauge answer, twitter isn't great with long explinations.
Maybe DICE is still deciding how to implement this, but it seems like a weird thing to wait this long to implement, when it wasn't in the alpha, i wasn't that worried, but once I got the early access Beta and still didn't see how I could get into specific squads, even in battlelog, eyebrows were raised.
This seems to be the biggest issue we need clarification on, if your in the beta, participate or just sign the threads about the squad issues, hopefully DICE will lets us just know specifics of how it will be implemented. And please, do so in a respectful manner, no matter how this makes you feel, posting angry messages makes us seem immature.
Yeah it seemed insane to think DICE having this Big title they want to push out in a big way, and removing a feature that pretty much is the back bone of the Team play their games are known for, and it's all just in a little menu.
I don't know if it was that it just wasn't in the Aplha and Beta, and was going to be in the Retail version anyways, but they should have made it clear from the get go.
Either way they heard us, and this aspect will be there, I am majorly relived.
I have a feeling that they were not intending to do it until the community came out with massive rage. Bazajaytee made a few posts in the thread in which he posted that quote which mentioned that they were listening to the feedback and that he would try to figure out what they were doing with the squads. If it was a definite feature, you would think a dev would know about it.
Since the Open BETA we’ve added more advanced functionality to manage your squad. You will be able to browse and join specific squads through the squad screen. You can see all players that are in a specific squad as well as who’s playing as lone wolf. As a squad leader you can set your squad to private as well as kick players from the squad.
On console you will also be able to choose if you want the active VoIP channel to be team or squad and invite friends to your squad. You will also be able to mute any player on your team through the scoreboard.
